New to RC Tanks - looking for new upgraded tank

Post by LeeinBR7 »

Hi All,

Don't ask me why but have decided I like the idea of being an RC Tank owner/enthusiast! I think I was deprived of RC toys as a kid...never even had a trainset! :(

Anyway, help would be gratefully received from subscribers to forums. I'm not the most technically minded so have been looking at purchasing a HL Tiger Late Production but already substantially upgraded - metal lower chassis, idlers, sprockets, roadwheels & tracks. Would prefer BB rather than IR version. Have found one on Tankzone at about £300 but wondered if any of you guys/gals had any other suggested suppliers?? Also, are there any RC Tank Clubs around SE London??

Any advice/help gratefully received.

Hi and welcome. Tankzone gets a lot of bad press on this forum. Only problem I get from them is poor response and they are expensive.

If you want a really nice tiger fully upgraded I
Recommend rctank.de
Have a look at their site. In English and if you contact them they deal with you in English too. Diminique is quick to respond and extremely helpful. I am based in Ireland and have tried a lot of the others but rctank.de is the only one I will deal with now. He has a heavily upgraded tiger 1 full metal hull wheels ect for 300 euro not pounds. Far more upgrades than the tankzone model. Have a look at the site and send him an email . Pm me if you need any info. I too got sucked into this recently and now have 2 tanks completed. I'm going to get one of the late tigers from rctank asap.

Hi there welcome to the forum , same here Ive never used Tankzone so I cant comment on there service however the reason I dont is there to expensive , but thats just my opinion . I use Steve at Welsh Dragon models for parts and Dave ( Forgebear) for tanks .

Hi and welcome,

Having had a problem with Tankzone in the past I won't deal with him. Useful site for reference though. Welsh Dragon is very highly thought of on this forum, but I can't comment personally. I have dealt with Forgebear and found him great to do business with and I would not hesitate to buy from him again. Very helpful guy.

Welcome, you just have no idea what you're getting yourself into mate, believe me.

Have to agree with whats been said before. I don't touch tankzone anymore, they do have a good range of items but are a tad more expensive and you have more chance chatting on an ouija board to Napoleon than you do with them if you have a problem/need help.

Both Forgebear for his tanks and Welshdragon for parts etc are the way to go for me, both give great service with the ol personal touch and both are easily contactable. I wouldn't think twice about recommending both and they get my money pretty much everytime.

Well, just checked rc tank.de and they have 16 variations of upgraded tiger 1 at present. The late modelsare both recoil flash but have every worthwhile ugrade except a cooling fan for the rx18. Plenty of bb firing tigers but early version. I prefer the recoil version with flash. I have 26 airsoft guns so if I want to shoot something I will use one of these rather than that little thing in the Heng long tiger. Have a new bb firer in my bits box if anybody interested.

Send them a contact. Tell Dominique that john from Ireland recommended him. Are you thinking about doing a repaint? Lots of good tips on the forum. Beware though, things can get out of hand with upgrades. I have done the full Elmod upgrade on my tiger. I have some video posted. Just waiting for a new radio and receiver set up then I can add more features.
When you add up the extras included with the rctank upgrade compared with s basic Henglong upgraded over time there is a significant saving. These tanks can be quite heavy with metal upgrades. Mine is about 18 lbs and copes well with the weight.

Tankzone not only get a bad press here, they are a legend in the States, and also on a French forum I visit. I have had no end of problems with Kin in the past, mainly because he advertises stock that he hasn't actually got.

Any of the dealers mentioned above are nice, honourable people who will give you sterling service.
