Hood sunk,Bismarck task group at large

Post by Saxondog »

The article below is an alternate history scenario, one of the many "what if's' that could of happened in WWII if certain people and events had been different. The one cause of the Kriegsmarine's lack of air power was Goering,in this alternate history he died in 1938 of a severe heart failure.Allowing the German CARRIERS to be fully developed.

I am just trying out this kind of discussion, strictly for the educational value of learning about each segment of History and how different it could of been had certain people like (GOERING) not been in power dictating policy or tactics. What do you guy;s think of this approach? In order to change history we must first understand what really happened and what could of happened.http://www.combinedfleet.com/furashita/grafze_f.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

On a foggy sea the German task group Bismarck along with 5 Z-class destroyers and the Air craft carrier Graf Zeppelin and 8'cruiser Prinz Eugen meet the HMS Hood and the new Battleship Prince of Wales. Due to the weather the German group had no C.A.P. over their task group but were able to sink the HMS.Hood and damage the Price of WALES.

Reports or Bismarck task group were very limited by the same bad weather that denied the Germans the advantage of Air-power. The Prince of Wales new from the builders yard retreated back toward the Irish coast for RAF protection, The task group Bismarck has broken out into the Atlantic, at the same time task group Scharnhorst with the Battleship Gneisnau left their berths in France for the Atlantic.

Also from Norway the Task Group Tirpitz with 5-Z Class destroyers and the carrier Peter Strasserr sailed into the North Atlantic from the North sea base in Tromso Norway. This force of ships by the German Navy have more firepower and aircraft available to be almost unstoppable.

The German forces driving into the Atlantic have suspended all convoy traffic and all ships a sea are advised to seek shelter in the nearest port. The Royal Navy has left Scapa flow through the channel to consolidate resources with force H from Gibraltar. The battle of the Atlantic will be a turning point in the war.

It is a sad day at Whitehall,and rejoicing at the Berlin command center.RMS Hood was sunk in minutes but the Prince of Wales is believed to of scored two hits on Bismarck but to what effect is not known. The concern now is for the Prince of Wales to find shelter under RAF Protection before the weather clears and allows the Germans to mount an air strike against her.

The completion of these two German groups and their power has yet to be seen, but the compliment of FW190,jU-87 and the Arado torpedo planes is more airpower than the RN can counter with the older planes available to the RN.
