Tony,s 205 rebuild

Post by fleshpedler »

Hi guys just inform you that i shall be starting this thread as to the rebuild of Tony,s tiger 1,
at present a small number of items have been done ,but i shall next week start this thread in a
practicable way with the turret replacement of items , and the removal of the loaders hatch surround ,and adding the screw down tags on the armoured vent, also the removal of the loaders hatch retaining straps and adding extra bits ...........
Fleshy..................................
(foot note to those of you who do not know who Tony is , can i just say that he was a very knowledgeable chap who would help anybody whom had a question about most things,,
and sadly passed away some 18 months ago .His widow Alison was going to try and finish his tiger 1 but was just too much for her so i shall do my best to complete that end....)

Right off we go.. as i said above.. the things that i shall start with, so without further ado here we go...
the turret had to be changed and you can see from the pics the end result ,but since then i have found that i shall not be using the pilze crane sockets on the turret roof..............

Image
the turret before i started

Image

Image
this shows that the loaders hatch surround has been removed

Image
here are the parts removed

Image
this part i made for the armoured vent not easy from plastic .......
Image
this what it looks like insitu

Image
also seen here are the pilze sockets ,note that i have relocated the holes in the roof,, next will be too add the weld bead across the roof side to side..and then add all the weld beads required...

Next the hull........

Image
this shows the hull and the mods needed the removal of the pry bar , the engine blanking plate ,also the engine hatches had to be removed and new new ones built,

Image

here it shows the handles removed, the rear retaining latch removed and the water filler ground off , a great deal of filler has gone in to these depressions ,,the engine vent has been rounded off but will require more work... as i now post more i shall try and include the info attached to the piccy as this is the best way too do it.........so the pics below should include the info fingers crossed......................Fleshy...........

Image

dam they only show in the photo bucket site so this just means more writing ,..the piccy above shows the ring guard plan kindly sent by tankman

Image
here i am using lead to make this bit i find this is a very useful medium, as long as one is careful,

Image
this shows that i have added all the holes required on the plan including the ones that will not be used these rings were made of three pieces the same holes drilled in each ,but owing to the fact that items under the roof were there they found that some holes had to be left open..

Image
this shows the profile that is required on the ring guard..........

Image
the overall piccy of the new parts including the now rejected pilze sockets, also the two ally tubes that will be added to the commanders hatch for his rain guard ..and the replacement engine handles.made from copper wire.............
more to follow soon..........

Here you will see that i have added the rain retainers on the comanders hatch along with the hatch stop....... it was after i had fitted this piece very small 4.5mm by 2.5mm ,that i reliesed that the comanders hatch is off line by some 22 degrees to the front of the tank ,the trouble is that this is made of ally and more or less now welded into the turret top , i don,t think that many,, if any would have even noticed that it was not right , so i shall not be correcting this unfortunate mistake,,but on the plus side i have a picture of a 1/6th scale tiger with the same error...

Moving on... the rear deck vent is removed so that an air gap will be seen ,also this vent will be more rounded than it was ..(why ..sorry pass) the new copper wire handles fitted ,the new replacement engine bay latches made from brass and plasic card ..this now leads to the other end of tank, the turret ie.. mantlet end, i made a new bar that was fitted below the turret top this is plainly seen in smaller scales but not 16th strange! it was in fact made from three separate pieces and bolted in , i choose to make this part in one piece and simulate by making saw cuts in the right places , i also had to make the illusion of the bolts sunk in this bar , this i did by making a brass tube sharpened and then hand drilled this into the bar to give the appearance of the hole and then drilled a small hole in the centre to asimulate the allen headed bolt inside..when this part is painted and a wash added this should become more noticable i hope....
Fleshy..........

rear deck handles fitted and vent removed

the removed vent ,new latches made and also the new cover plate.......

the modded brass tube made for the holes in the mantlet front

the corners of the manlet have been rebated for this bar as per real tank

this shows the new bar made
Image
the bar here is loosely fitted

this is a close up of the bar......
thats all for today folks..........

One thing that I only noticed recently on my HL mantlet is that because it has been flipped to get it right, there is a recess in the middle along the top. Should that be there? It doesn't look right to me, so has anyone resolved this?

Hi Rob not too sure if this what your taking about..as i do not have a looking down piccy but if you look at the picture where the barrel disappears into the mantlet ,you can make out the recess or better in the pic of Alan123 build ...hope this helps Rob......
