Here is how I do it:

Create a folder on my hard drive called 'Original Tiger sound'
Copy all of the Tiger sounds from the sound card into the folder.

Create another folder on the sound card called 'New Tiger sound'
Leave this empty for now.

Download the following free sound editors:

1. Audacity
2. dbPowerAmp

Audacity will allow you to create and edit sound bites.
Engine sounds should be no more than 300 milliseconds, and more than 20 is not needed.
The first one is the tickover
The second is the accelaration
The rest are sound that are played according to the speed step that the tank is running at.

If you are creating new sound files from a recording, use the Audacity 'Remove Silence' function. This will occupy you for hours! (Audacity 1.3 Beta is better at this).
If there is any silence even a nano-second in the sound bite, it will generate an awful 'click' when it is played back on the tank. You won't hear the click when you play it on the pc. This is because the soundblaster tries to reset itself when it encounters a silent part of sound.

If you are creating a whole new engine sound file, then create the bites, then open dbPowerAmp and run a 'Batch Convert' on all of them.
This will ensure that they are all 22mhz, 8 bit & .wav files. It also strips out the tags that other programs leave attached to sound files, and which the soundblaster will reject.

Always save the new sounds into the hard drive folder 'New Tiger sounds'. This way if you mess anything up you can go back to the originals in the 'Original Tiger Sound' folder and start again.

Do the same on the memory card. Save the contents of 'New Tiger sounds on the pc into 'New Tiger sounds' on the memory card.
You can test the sounds on the memory card by renaming say '001' as '001a', and then renaming 'New Tiger sounds as '001'.
Then set the soundblaster jumpers to '001'.
The tank will now play the contents of '001' which is your new sound file, and the original will remain intact.

Oh, and always run the 'Checker' program before you save a set of sound files to the memory card, it ensures that all of the sound files are present, and that they are in the correct format. It will tell you which ones have errors.

Hope this helps, and yes, it is a steep and very frustrating learning curve, but read the Elmod manual that can be downloaded from their site and it will help, though it is written on the basis that the reader already understands a bit about sound files, configurations etc.

Cheers

Rob G

PS - Go very carefully with the sound chip holder on the Soundblaster board - it is like tissue paper
