1/16 figures

Hi All

Debate

We now what 1/16 in vehicles, planes, boats, or others that are man made.

Can any one tell me who decided what a 1/16 size figure should be,
did they measure to a 1/16 vehicle and say that looks OK.

Where did we get 1/16 in humans .

do you mean there are short people and tall people. I would assume they went by average heights for an adult. That would be about 5ft 8inches at a guess. Actionman is a strapping 6 footer in scale.

Hi The figures should be about 4,5 inches high this is six foot,so for a guy 5. 10 =4 3/8inches 5ft 6 = 4 1/4inches.
As people duing the war were smaller than they are today, just the odd guy who topped over 6ft any thing that is in between 4 1/4 inches and 4 1/2 inches should be O.K.

Sometimes 1/16 scale figures are called 120mm which is just metric for the sizes already discussed.

What is a average height i'm say 6ft my smle rifle which is about 5ft with bayonet, if i held it
to me then it would be a foot shorter, if i then scaled the rifle to 1/16, then scaled my self to 1/16
the rifle would still be shorter right, if on the other hand if I scaled down a 5ft person
then the both would be at the same height, or a smaller person scaled to 1/16 with the 1/16
rifle .

not only would there be a difference in height also there would be in hands,feet other.

Your right people where smaller build then.

Thats not what i'm getting at, when you scale a tank to 1/16,
where do you get your 1/16 figure's from, every body in the real world
would have to be the same .

You cant really make a 1/16 figure in height, i have a photo of
four ww1 soldier's at around the same height but one
of them is standing on a box, if i was to make a 1/16
scale model of them, how would i go about it.

Its easy really. 1/16 is a "fraction". Divide any length, width or height by 16 and then you have your measurement.
If something is 16 feet long in real life then it will be 1 foot long as a 1/16 scale object.
