My Panther
Re: My Panther
Hi again, just to mention that I ordered the axle support bearings from Welshdragon today, so should get them in a days time. Will see if they will fit inside the new metal casings before I start modifying the covers to attach to the hull and drill out the hole for the small return rollers

Re: My Panther
The support bearings arrived today....always fast service with Welshdragon......and they fit inside the final drive covers :p
Re: My Panther
Hi, drilled out the holes to take the small wheel, then found that the small wheel was hitting thr drive cog, so cut its length down.........but still a tight fit. Needs more work, but all I can do at the mo, off to Africa for a bit with work, so tank is relegated to the garage again
Here you can see the cut down small wheel, and the support bearings are just underneath the cover....you can also notice the difference in size by the paint to the new covers..

Here yoyu can see that the cut down small wheel is still fouling the drive sprocket, so will have to cut a bit more off, but its a really tight fit....A lot of effort I think for something hidden!

Re: My Panther
Hi again............just got back from Nigeria, and had a look at the tank.....you will see in the picture above that the sprocket is close to the final casing.............well, I found out why, the small spacer I had put in had fallen out(You can get these, as I did, from Welshdragon), causing the drive sprocket to be closer to the small wheel, and so I cut it to short!....aaaargh!....Took me all of two seconds to see my mistake after not working on it for two weeks...never mind...

Re: My Panther
Hi Nic
I've been looking at your pics and reading what you have done, when I took all the wheels
off my hl tiger 1, there was play in the drive wheel but thought there was nothing you could do about it
I 've refitted them now after painting, leave it for the next time.
Hope you enjoyed your trip.

Re: My Panther
Hi Nic,Just don't get all the trouble with a new made for Panther part? I feel your pain those covers should have been a perfect fit.Would like to have them for my Jagdpanther, did you purchase the Asiatam tack adjusters as well? I am installing these tonight. cheers Blake
Re: My Panther
Hi Blake, yes I did, the track adjusters are a tight fit to...........but I always expect a bit of fine tuning, tomorrow I will have a bash at finishing off the final drive covers...the wife has gone to a horse show and taken the camera, so no pics to show the finished covers or the fitted idlers, will try and find the lead for my old cam, or try and use my phone...
Regards, Nic
Ps, while I was away the rear light arrived from Welshdragon, so more bits to install!.........will also try to show the rear plate and the hassle I have with the opening covers .....but thats tomorrow

Re: My Panther
Same here I have tomorrow to work on the Jagdpanther's adjusters, I have used Dietrich's string method a lttle sanding and I have a nice flat surface to mount the shaft support plates. Not real happy with the wheels they seem to have to much play in the bushings. Did you have that problem?

Re: My Panther
Panther is coming along nicely. Iget back from holiday on Tuesday and have a load of parts waiting for my Tiger 1.Looking forward to getting it finished. Panther looks like a nice companion for it. Nice to have your details for mods. Also considering Panzer 111. Do you intend to instal Elmod or keep standard?

Re: My Panther
Hi John, Thanks for the thumbs up, still a long way to go, I have just fitted the right hand side final drive cover, but still got to shorten the small wheel(The shaft needs to be shortened by about 2mm)...pics in a bit....when its finished(its been 9 months now!) I would like the Elmod bits, but not yet. I have the panzer III, but its old now(pre smoke and sound), and battered from chasing the chickens!, Got a couple of tigers too, but they were put on the back burner when the panther was released, one is almost converted to a late and the other two are non runners that I got cheap of Ebay for donor bits, might convert one to a berg tiger though.
