I wasn't happy with the liquid residue left by my commercial " fog juice " plugging the exhaust pipes ....One solution is to use bigger size exhaust pipes ; but soon or later you go out of scale ....
I believe that the major problem is cause by the use of distilled water as a solvent in most commercial products ...I don't think the heater elements we are using in the smoke units are producing enough heat to vaporize that water ; causing an unwanted residue ...
I've been testing a mix of Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol 70% USP and vegetable glycerin in a 2/1 ratio ....( 200 ml alcohol / 100ml glycerin ) ...
The smoke unit in this test video has been running for more than 6 hours strait without having any plugging in the pipes ...( I do have to refill every 50 minutes )....

A cleaner smoke fluid ?

Re: A cleaner smoke fluid ?
excellent discovery! and I am also somewhat hesitant to breath in the fumes of an unknown liquid from a Chinese manufacturing plant...even though I am sure all international safety precautions have probably been met....
Re: A cleaner smoke fluid ?
I was just thinking that I have an old party fog machine in the basement and it uses fogging fluid that really smokes(of course, draws more amps too)...maybe useful in HL smokers???
Re: A cleaner smoke fluid ?
That's my problem exactly ...I was using fogging fluid made for those fog machines ....I bought it at the music store next door ...xrad wrote:I was just thinking that I have an old party fog machine in the basement and it uses fogging fluid that really smokes(of course, draws more amps too)...maybe useful in HL smokers???
Those fogging fluid are using distilled water as solvent and our smoke units are not powerful enough to evaporate that water ; creating unwanted residue ; plugging the pipes ....So using alcohol which has a lower boiling point than water as a solvent seems to fix the problem ....
