Acrylic paint black-wash?

Hi can i use acrylic paint as a black wash and if so would it be best to thin it with water or tamiya x-20 thinner? (which i have) im asking this because it says that enamel paint is best for doing a black-wash effect on this leaflet thing i got with the tank about finishing.

Victor, it would be much easier to help you if you could post pictures of your built/paintwork. Look at the color modulation link, this will help you understand coloring and it's effect.Then we can find where you are and plan how to get the finish you want, ok? But pictures are needed so not just me but other members can see your progress and help you create the finish you want.

My first Tank is the subject of the painting and weathering post,I was one of three people in that section to actually paint a tank,my first tank. I used only Testors brand enamels, which are much more difficult to use being oil based. But I have been modeling ships for many years, and allthough this wars my first AIRBRUSH TANK it was a learning curve,and if you notice in the thread I completely stripped my tank and started over, as did OZ.

My detailing/washes where done using chaulk pastels powder mixed with paint and thinner,this was my own technique, although pastels have been part of the lesson, I took it to another method and it worked out very well. So I want to help but pictures are a must. If you have a camera I can help you load them on the forum?

I am waiting on the post for some more olive drab paint as i have run out and i am taking pictures as i go which i will post once i get the base coat on but basically i want it all olive drab colour with a black wash (where you accent low spots/shadows/wrinkles etc..) and dry brushing/weathering dust and mud on the tracks/ mud guards etc... where appropriate.

Victor if you painted the tank using arcrylic paint you must use a oil based wash or seal it with a oil based varnish first or the original paint will run.

So does that mean i can use acrylic paint as a wash? and yes i am going to seal it with something before i put on the wash then seal it again
