Hi Dave I think its possible but have never played with el-mod see here http://www.el-mod.de/pdf/PRO_english.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If you are using multi channel radio (not Heng Long )even if you cant conecet to the board you could put a Y conector from the receiver conect one to the board and one to recoil (if you fit a servo slow Tunngi thing)you could have the servo move fast back slow forward,the pdf shows conections for servos, the tamiya conection wouldnt be suitable for a normal servo because there is no reverse on a tamiya recoil its just a motor going one way.
It all depends what you have in mind there is allways a way to get it working.

Thats odd, it accepted my edit last night but its not there this morning??

The servo connections are the two blue sockets at the bottom of the right hand pic, you can animate a machine gun and/or use them for a servo controlled recoil.

A bigger copy of the manual is on the Elmod site under archived docs, well worth a free download for use as a reference guide.
