Tiger 1 advice.

Guys, need some advice regarding a Tiger 1 upgrade.

I recently bought an asiatam metal hull with suspension arms etc. to go with ( I thought!) a new set of Mato early metal wheels.

The problem I have is that I don't have an axle for those wheels thats compatable with the asiatam suspension arms. I had hoped that the allen screw type axles on a newish tiger would fit the arms( they do for the wheels!) but they don't.

The axles from an old tiger DO fit but only with the old plastic wheels and NOT the metal wheels, so before I throw myself under a bus does anyone have any ideas???

Hi, I had the same thing so tuned down some 4mm allen socket head bolts the heads need turning down and the shaft turned to 3mm od . hope this helps Pete.

Thanks for replying but I don't have any facility to do anything like that sorry to say. I was hoping some stock item that could do the job.

i used m3 allen bolts about 25mm should do you may have to trim the ends down abit

and the heads need grinding down
also put some brass sleeve in the wheels to remove slop

you can get 3mm i.d. by 4mm o.d. brass tube from b&q and you may have to open the wheels up to 4mm id for the tube

Just checked that web page for the axles, difficult to tell as the photographs for both plastic and metal wheel axles appear to be the same. My main problem ( according to welshdragon) is that the Mato metal wheels which I have aren't compatable with the asiatam hull. If I had asiatam metal wheels it would be simple, but, being me, I tried to make this as difficult for myself as possible.

I'm in the process of building an original version tiger with side bins so the project I bought the hull for has gone on the back burner.Welshdragon emailed me to tell me he has two different types of axles in stock and very reasonably said he'd have them back if they weren't the ones but as of yet I haven't taken him up on his offer, so, sorry, no solution at the present.

I purchased the Tiger hull when first offered,they were designed to use the Asiatam wheels, solution for me was tapping control arms first to 6/32" for stock plastic wheels, then 3.5mm for the early model rubber lined wheels from WSN. The axles for the hull come in two sizes but tapping is the way to go. Over a year and never have I had a wheel/axle/or track problem and my Tiger is a little over 20lbs. The Asiatam hull has been great, absolutely worth every penny.
