Centurion Bridgelayer (FV4002)

Post by hawkeye3guns »

Hi don't know if any one can help but I'm in the process of starting to build this tank using a KV lower hull and running gear as the base. The externall dimension match the tank, although the tracks are wider resulting in the hull being 8.25mm to narrow @ 1/16 scale. I think I can use poetic licence here though. I am prepared to make the pheomatic pistons for the bridge layer mechanism but I am looking for ideas for a small pressure tank and compressor that would fit into the tank. I have seen on "you tube" some RC bridge layers in germany but have no idea how they have acheived the working mechanism, ie. hydraulic, phoematic, electric gears and a rack push rod. Does anyone have any idea's or knowledge of these tanks. Cheers

Thanks I had a look at some of them at our local aircraft club. They have enough travel on them but there is no power behind them. They almost use gravity to lower and then very lower pressure to raise. The bridge at 890mm long being raise to the vertical by a fulcrom only 74mm from the end needs a pull in the region of 3.75 Kg. The second piston which lowers the bridge into place also has a fulcrom at approxiamatley the same load. I have found a sail winch with plenty of torque but are struggling to run and hide the operating cables so I'm back to square one at the moment.
