Steel Panther WW2 for Windows

Post by 30+ »

Does anybody have this game? It's made by Shrapnel games and can be downloaded for free or bought on CD. I have the download version at home, but those who have bought the CD have told me that you then get more options etc. One turn is about the same as one minute in real time.

It is a turn based game, where you see the battlefield from above and I just love it. Each hexagon is about 50 meters so a 100x100 hexagon map would represent a battlefield 5x5 km big.

Right now I'm playing a scenario in Lithuania in October 1944. The mission for the German side (me) is to delay the advance of the Red Army (the PC), so that reenforcments can arrive and plug the hole.

My forces consisted of two infantry regiments (about 800 men in total), one infantry batalion heavy company (double MG42s and 12 cm mortars), various tanks (one King Tiger, two Panther Gs, four Jagdpanzer IV, eight StuG III and two Hetzer), three PaK 40s plus close air support from four Fw 190A8 and fire support from three 15 cm artillery batteries. It's hard to say what the Red Army had, but it has thrown a huge number of tanks (including six IS II!) plus a great number of infantry groups at me.

At this stage I've practicly won the battle, but the victory has come at a very high price: My losses suffered so far has been about 90% of the infantry (there is not a single complete infantry group left!), between four and five tanks, one PaK 40 and two Fw 190A8 shot down by the enemies AAA. The enemy has lost all tanks (at least 35!) but three plus a huge number of infantrymen, but still refuses to give up. So I guess I'll let the artillery and the two remaining Fw 190s pound his forces until he gets my point and gives up.

I'm gonna figure out how make snapshots of the "battlefield" and after that I plan on posting an After Action Report or two. It was a long time ago now and lots of fun.

Cheers, Jens
