It's unfortunately all too true Deitrich that the winner does write the history books and the misdemeanors of the allies is swept under the carpet. Some of those activities are today now considered war crimes. The truth on many things that happened is now slowly being revealed as information is released but unfortunately many of the myths will go on and on as it makes for more "acceptable" reading for some people.

Re: Porsche King Tiger or Not
I don't think for one minute that Peiper done these crimes personaly but men under his command did and it was up to him to disaplin anyone who commited war crimes he was guilty of the very least turning a blind eye and letting it happen. There were too many people pointing the finger at Peiper and his men for war crimes, Michael Wittmann probably killed more men but he did it in battle.

Re: Porsche King Tiger or Not
The Tiger II was developed late in the war and made in relatively small numbers. Like all German tanks, it had a gasoline engine. However, this same engine powered the much lighter Panther and Tiger I tanks. The Tiger II was under-powered, like many heavy tanks of WW2, and consumed a lot of fuel which was already in short supply.
dont be fooled by this missnomer the german tanks where not under powered the where under geared as most of the failures where not engine but final drives they used inferior coarse strait cut gears desined for lighter tanks and would fail under the torque of the engine so they where ordered by command not to exceed 22 klm per hour to keep from destoying the final drives 80% of all failures where from final dives if you look into most of the distroyed german armour there final drives where amost always salvaged for parts
