Which metal gearbox

Post by mrstone »

Hello and thanks for the help in advance

It is time for me to start thinking about upgraded metal gearbox for my h/l tiger. I need something that :
  • is quite robust
  • will give me 3:1 (or 4:1) reduction
  • will work with standard h/l control board
  • is likely to work with elmod control board (which I am hoping to get in the future)
  • is easy to install into standard plastic hull
There are at least couple of suitable products on the market - will you be able to recommend one?

Thank you very much

are you going with the new elmod set up ,if so these take into account 3.1 reduction gear boxs but the old three board elmod doesnt so you would need standard gearing if you wanted scale speed

Thanks for the quick reply.

I haven't decided on elmod yet, but it is likely to be the new one. Slow speed and more power take priority over the proper scaling of the speed

Also don't forget this is a forum of information as well,including a very good gearing calculator which will help in your modification of your drive train,Sax http://rctankwarfare.co.uk/forums/downloads.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

hi if u go for the 4/1 high grade gearboxes beaware that u wont b able too fit 400 motors if u want too in the future ,that said im on the lookout for 380 motors and came across duratrax rock crawlers. the stumbling point on these been the cost of postage from the states,,

Thank you all for your replies

I have checked forgebear's eBay listing, no Tiger gearboxes unfortunately. Dave, please let me know if I missed something

Brat67, I am actually interested in 400 motors. Are you talking about Graupner Speed 400's or is there something else you can recommend? I am assuming then that 3/1 gearboxes will accommodate the motors fine.

As for gearboxes - which make is likely to be better quality - Asiatam or Mato?

Thanks
