hey oz friends of mine have got a good solid bomb shelter down the bottom of their garden, brick built with a solid concrete roof, you can use that instead of body armour, call it "oz's bunker" ;D ;D ;D

Guys you are over looking a simple fact--RCU is formost a "Business"------They sell addvertising space----That is their goal,Period. It is off the PAID addvertising they make the money.Every member and future member is a potential customer that will eventually buy from one or more of the people paying to sell their items on RCU and the hobby shops that addvetise there..Being on there for free as a so called member is just a by-product of the fact you will eventually buy from them.Think it will be hard to find a hobby forum that is not connected to paying sellers,or clubs that also most likely in one way or other are also connected to some one selling.Thats just the way it is,thats how they make money and pay the bills.I would doubt if there are actually very many people on the RCU payroll,I would guess they could be counted on one hand.I would also guess most if not all the moderators are unpaid but do get some free and discount prices on items involved with a specific forum, and sum live on the so called status of being able to claim there fame to moderator. When it comes down to what you build or how well you build it makes no difference to them other than the fact this can and will help draw in more potential customers down the line.If addvertising is not a factor to them I would like to see someone get on there and say----------Tower hobby is an over priced seller with lousy service, and if you are smart you will stay away from them and tell others not to buy there.-------------Try posting that and see how long it will be on there. ;D ;D

I was on there a year and a half before I threw in the towel and left.I have noticed some changes that they would not have allowed when I first went on there that they are allowing now. Here again it boils down to money.A lot of the regular names you see on there on a continual bassis are sellers of tanks,or tank related items. You pay a fee (what ever it is)and they now allow them to more or less conduct business to a degree on the forum. (don't get me wrong here because it can be benificial to both sides "those selling & those buying") If this is done in a reasonel manner and don't just turn into a total commerical enterprise,it will mabe work fairly well.If it turns into a site like ebay with guys trying to post there builds getting lost amoungst all the stuff trying to be sold by the sellers,it will drive a lot of the people away.At times I feel it is close to that on RCU now, along with some real shit-heads who may also affect the same out-come.For some of you who have been and still are members who have been there a while, can attest to the fact that a lot of names seen on a regular bassis have come and gone. Some of this is just due to the nature of hobbys and some I think can be directly linked to the sometimes unpleasent atmosphire on the forum. Some relish on the fighting and slamming that can get going a the drop of a simple post, and two of the biggest--Panther-f  and Piss-com-1.    There are more but these two have the process down pretty well.It may be a little tough getting a forum started, but it is dam easy to kill one.              Just my un-asked-for -opinion.    BIGMIG  ;) ;)

Isn't that the way that Hitler went out? - obviously he didn't need a recording to listen to his insane ranting, but didn't he cling to the belief that there was an army of KT's enroute to rout the red army until the very end?
(Not that I'm in any position to judge, sitting here surrounded by R/C tanks, chugging beer (or at least what passes as beer here!) listening to Rammstein and clinging to the hope that I still have a job after christmas so I can buy more tanks...! I'm not entirely sure who was more delusional at this point...?  :D )

@ BIGMIG - you are so right about the advertising aspect - like I said earlier in the thread, they don't care if certain members troll as those threads are the most popular in terms of veiwership! (don't any of you deny it - its like a car crash - ugly, painfull but you just have to stop and stare!)
That forum has gone downhill ever since Richard L stopped policing it and disappeared... The post that RCKen made to end Matt's "why?" thread was the first time I've seen him speak up since the "Kurt Meyer is a thieving scumbag" (or words to that effect) thread - and that was pretty much because there was a lynch mob forming in the forum!!
Here's to a short work week here in the US - Cheer's!  ;D
