Thats a great idea Paul. It would be excellent for adding missing detail like rivets or bolt heads.
Where did you get the resin gearbox covers behind the sprocket?
Cheers,
Rik

Re: tamiya sherman with mato vvss
The difference in suspensions on these two Shermans are what your modifying ? Just trying to further my Sherman knowledge Paul.
Re: tamiya sherman with mato vvss
So here are my dumb QUESTIONS,First are these a result of improving the Sherman? Or does this represent two different manufacturers? Similar to our gun discussion last night about the different Gun calibers, and the field modified armor but this had to be a factory design change or difference? Sax

Re: tamiya sherman with mato vvss
Its not a dumb question Blake, its all part of learning to speak 'Sherman'! lol
The first picture you showed is Vertical Volute Spring Suspension (VVSS). It was the original suspension system for the Sherman taken from the M3 Grant's and Lee's. It was fairly efficient, but suffered from narrow tracks and a higher profile.
The second picture shows the Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension (HVSS) which was introduced very late in the war, in December 1944, on the first Easy 8 model Sherman. It could handle higher loads, and had wider tracks. It also was easier to maintain.
The HVSS Shermans showed up in very small numbers in the Second World War, but were far more common in Korea. Both suspensions were made by all manafacturers I believe. Just after mid '44 the started to swap to HVSS.
I hope that helps answer your question.
