Re: old shool tamiya tanks
hi
Yes you can, I bought an old Tamiya Sherman and removed the old gear and fitted a HL rx-18 set of boards. It also gave me the chance to add turret rotation and gun elevation. There's a wee bit of work in doing it but it's worth it. Only problem is I have a Sherman that sounds like a Tiger.

Yes Mike
Not a problem had mine since 1974 added new gearboxes because i could not find the second gear to allow me to run the motors separtely added mf and dmd units runs super, now waiting for the vvss and track and then she will be a full m4a4 hulled sherman..........

cool, thats ok then the reason i am asking is because iam not going to be able to afford a tamiya tank any time soon i think the best thing to do is buy a oldshool tank thats in need of some work and have it as a little project

Re: old shool tamiya tanks
Hi Just to let you know it is posible to fit a battle system to the old Tamiya T01 dmd fitted to early Shermans, you need y conectors for the Dmd leads from the RX and a RC2HL DBC from Darkith along with an old board RX 13 or 14 dosnt matter if its burnt out the fets ,Have just tested mine so I can run big motors from the DMD and still have a battle system fitted with sounds from the RC2Hl Dbc/DBU and an old RX14 board .

Re: old shool tamiya tanks
my thinking is to fit new sherman internals into a potential early (aparantly the first) sherman hull that i might have lined up.

Re: old shool tamiya tanks
Hi Hope you can get your Sherman,no one I know has fitted crawler motors ,we do fit 3:1 gearboxes and 4:1 gearboxes to give more torque and less speed to the tanks so they run more to scale speed or as close as we can get them to scale ,fitting low ratio gears gives better of road ablity along with metal tracks for better grip.

Re: old shool tamiya tanks
hmmn i wunder if its worth doing then because when i had my scale crawlers they didnt half ad extra torque
