Hi from sunny Afghanistan

Post by blue5565 »

Hi All
Im Dave, I havent gotten a tank yet, but Im gagging to get hold of one when I get home,(must clear it with the wife or sneak it in) I came accross the site while searching for tanks, I have to admit the pics of your tanks are unbelievable. I quite like the look of the Heng Long tanks especially the tiger and jagdpanther and I have a few questions for you all.
Sorry if all the questions have been asked before.
Are Heng Long tanks reliable and what do you recommend?
Are there any brit tanks Chaly2, Centurion, Comet?
Is the IR/Airsoft cannons any good?
Are they easy to mod and what do you recommend doing first? Thanks
P.S Sorry if I dont reply for a while as its a bit of a nightmare on when I can get to a computer out here.

Hi
I'm new to the hobby to, but here's a website you might find interesting:
http://www.howesmodels.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And you could pop in on your way back through Brize, it's only 20 mins down the road in Kidlington and they're the cheapest Heng Long tanks I've found. Really helpfull too. They'll happily run a couple for you to check out.

Hello and welcome! Sunny Afghanistan eh? Although I am American now, I was born and grew up in Afghanistan (I am 100% Afghan). I guess thats where my love of tanks started after seeing so many Russian tanks at an early age. I just wanted to thank you personally for your work in my country as the place really needs help, but I don't need to tell you about that as you are in the "stuff". Welcome to the forum and can't wait to see your tanks once you get them. Be safe and if you get a chance, post some pics of old dead Russian tank graveyards from there. I'm sure the guys here would like to see that. Gives a whole new meaning to weathering!
PS, ever seem the movie "The Beast"?

Hi, and welcome to the forum, you cant go wrong with Heng Long tanks they are a lot cheaper than Tamiya and you can do just as much to them, the Tiger 1 is a good tank to start with, lots of after market parts, i would go for metal gearboxes and metal tracks first  i also like the IR tanks over the airsoft because they come standard with recoil and flash on the main gun, but it is personal choice, as for brit tanks, not yet im affraid :(

Dont forget to check with the vendors on the forum before you buy anywhere else, you can get some great deals

Hello and Welcome to the forum,as far as your questions most answers are a matter of opinion. Here's mine,H/L Tiger with Asiatam lower hull,3:1 metal gearbox, metal tracks and sprockets. Also Metal road wheels.Next drive the tank and have fun. With this combination you should have a very strong reliable tank that should run trouble free for a long time. Also thanks for your service,I pray for you guy's to come home safe. Dave do you no when you will be coming home? Hopefully soon. Then maybe you can apply your experience in modern warfare to some modern armor mods. Are their many tanks in Afghanistan, seems like all we ever see are troops in mountains walking.I can't understand how difficult it must be to fight these people, but really more armor can't be a bad thing.Best Regards Blake

miles to go to get it built and wouls like to build as the configuration you may well see over there ...

the project i would love to have a real crack at is the mastiff .... but as its a fairly new bit of kitt .. the info is a bit thin on the ground .. but in time i am sure i can get a good set of drawings ......

there are a few chaps on the site that are in the middle of doing a centurion .... i guess it will only be a bit of time befour some one
attempts the chally 2 .... and i am aware that one or two chaps are looking at other brit kit !

i hope you get time to look in now and then ...

would be great to chat

if theres any thing you need ....then some how we will try to get bits n bobs to you ! its amazing what you can fit in to a size 16 shoe box ! ..
