i have a couple of early pre smoke and sound tanks ,,,,,,,,and want to slow them down with minimal expense ,,,,

Re: slowing the speed on a henglong
your looking at getting the 3.1 reduction gearboxs, these will give you a more to scale speed
all the best, ice

The HL hi-torque motors will slow down your tanks quite a lot. I found that my HL StuG III (which was fitted with the Hi Torque motors) was almost scale speed but still a tad too fast.

thanks Chris and ice . its good to know the hi torques will reduce the speed ,,,,,,i cannot afford the gearbox route at present ..
so if the high torques help its a major step

You can modify the standard nylon gear boxes to a 3 to 1 ratio you know.panzer3 wrote:thanks Chris and ice . its good to know the hi torques will reduce the speed ,,,,,,i cannot afford the gearbox route at present ..

I've done it with my 2008 model year S&S Tiger 1(still runs it's original plastic tracks and RX13 board too).
Coupled with the transmitter modification by BREL,both modifications are detailed on these pages by the way,it's now a really nice tank to drive and it moves like a 50 tonner
should.
The only parts you need are a pair of first gears(the ones the motor pinion drives)and a
couple of pairs(4 off)nylon bushes that the shafts run in or a pair of nylon geared 'boxes.
A pair of boxes will give you the gears, the gearbox casings to modify and plenty of spare
nylon bushes that you need.
Bear in mind though,if you're running metal tracks, sprockets and idlers, you really do need
the full metal gearboxes, but if you're running all standard factory drive trains, modified
nylon 'boxes will work well.

hi mark ,,,,,,,would like to know more about this ,,,,,,do you have a picture of your gear train ,,,,,,,i would like to try it ,,,,,,,i have 8 tanks so this sounds ideal
Re: slowing the speed on a henglong
Hi With non smoke and sound tanks ,the best bet is first change the black cap motors to white this will slow them but they will only have two speeds ,if you have plastic tracks plastic gears should be o.k. for the time being ,first mod you should make is getting to smoke and sound this means new boards inside the tank and also new transmitter/s depends how many you want to run at once you will need 1 transmitter for each tank ,after you have done this mod then change the gearboxes for metal ones after this you can fit metal tracks and suspension.

I haven't any pics of my modified gearboxes, but here's the thread and article by the late and
much missed Tony(tiger205).
I followed this and the other articles mentioned in the text to do a pair for me and recoil(Andy)
who gave me the parts I needed in return for a modded pair for himself.
