Thanks for tips,I saw the one on steeldragon site, I've given the upper hull a first dirty streak wash, most of this will be covered or partially covered by the white wash anyway, still the wheels and tracks/lower hull to sort out.

I used matt grey Humbrol, white spirit and large soft make-up brush (not mine!)

So you dry brushed the marks using a mixture of colors.I must say it seems to work very well.I asked because I am thinking of using dry brushing technique.With the pastels I use several different brush type but apply it dry then follow up with a light coat of matte varnish.But I can only produce a lighter streaking effect with pastels,so I will follow your example. I will paint a line using Humbrol then wet the brush with white spirit and using downward strokes drag the paint down, if its too much I use more white spirit and more brushing, big soft 'blusher' brush is good and they are only cheap to buy.I tend to use Humbrol matt aerosol clear as its nice and thin and dries in a couple of mins, saves having air brush out and it cuts on paint thickness as its so thin.

Mantlet is easy . Car body filler mixed with its hardener and some cellulose thinner into a smooth consistency , brush on, stipple with a large brush and allow to dry (takes a good few hours cos of thinner) gently sand off the worst 'peaks' and its done ! Make sure you mask off the bolt detail before applying the filler, I used some thin tubing. The texture needs to be slightly rougher than you think as the various coats of paint later on will tend to 'bury' the texture and if its too fine to start with it will be lost under the paint.
