SU 85 MANTLET

Post by Dragon245 »

Can anyone let me know if just the manlet moves or does the whole "ball" move on a SU 85

I think its just the mantlet?

I'm currently working on the Imperial Modelbau Su85 kit but I'm stuck trying to figure out how to mount the gun and make it traverse - its causing me a major headache right now  :-\

not really :( its the mounting thats casuing the grief - the ball at the front is a solid lump of resin with no provision for doing anything other than a fixed gun. the best I can do right now is glue everything to the mantlet and attach an elastic band to the recoil mechanism to hold it altogether (probably difficult to imagine, eh?).
I've fudged a traverse/elevation mechanism for my Su76i conversion, but I was able to build a convetional yoke for mounting and a couple of servo's for movement (I would post pic's of it, but its fricken hidious!!).
The Su85 is a much greater challenge - anybody else managed to make this work????

I'm not sure if i have read this right, but the outlined section is the part that moved and it moved 10 degrees left and right elevation is 20 degrees up from the horizontal and 3 degrees down from the horizontal, the cast ball behind the mantlet was part of the upper hull and did not move.

Hi Mcevoyi,
could you post some pics of the inside of your su? (I'm sssuming that you are able to move the gun in both planes?)
Thanks,
Mart

i did spend several hours looking at it .. but decided i would not try .. there is just not enough room to come up with a durable system

i opted for the bb unit ....

It would, but its expensive and difficult to get hold of - my only off the shelf option is the Wehco JT mechanism from the 'Zone - and thats way too much money even after the exchange rate swung my way!
