Smoke unit voltage

Has anyone come across an rx-18 board outputting a lower voltage than expected on the smoke unit terminal? I have put a voltmeter across the terminals of the RX-18 and I am only getting 2.3volts

Apart from this the tank operates perfectly.

After much careful thought and gnashing of teeth I have decided that I have 'cooked' my board at least partially, has anyone run a smoke unit directly off the battery terminals? (with an inline switch and suitable diodes so as not to fry the whole thing) If this isnt possible I guess its either a new RX-18 or forget the smoke altogether.

Mike,Their is a smoker design that I will post on this forum next week that will address the smoker problems in detail.Including a replacement element that does not burn out to a complete replacement unit that is a direct plug and go unit.This design has been tested and is completely reliable.As far as your voltage issue it should be a constant 7.2volts from RX18 to smoker,the plug in two wire connection on both types of smokers is 7.2volts.This voltage remains constant to the element and pump motor on the non-proportional smoker,and on the proportional smoker is constant to the element only.We will also be releasing a replacement element for both H/L smoker designs that will improve smoke out put and not burn up,or require a drying out if overfilled. After looking into my problem further it seems there is a transistor on the board that has a constant 7 volts on 2 pins and when the tank is started up it de-energises one pin and allows the 7 volts to run through to the middle pin so hopefully I should just be able to replace that transistor and I should be fine again

My only problem is that when the tranistor gave up the ghost it messed up the part of the casing that has the model number on! I was wondering if anyone with an rx-18 lying around could maybe see the model number on the transistor? ( I had to use a magnifying glass) I can make out JGY but the lettering above that is too messed up.


The transistor looks like this and is located right next to where the smoke unit plugs in
