blown board... what should i do?
hey guys,
the rx-14 in mybuilding super pershing seems to have blown, it'll go backwards fine but when yu reverse the left track doesnt work?? ive tried
does this mean its blown?
if so is their anything i can do to fix it?
or then what are my options, should i get another rx-14, or spend a bit more money time and effort fitting a rx18?
or should i once and for all ditch the HL and splash out (somehow) on a new receiver / controller?? and is so which one??
thanks guys, any help big or small is much appretiated!

Hi matt
sounds serious mate not heard of the 14's giving much trouble
have you got a clear picture of the fet board by any chance so we can work out whats gone it sounds like one of the fets has gone do you notice any "extra"solder on the fet board?
see pic the fet board is circled in yellow
personally you would be better of with a new 14 not heard much about the 18 and unsure of the reliability

Pete
not had much input on the 18's are they better than the 14
personally i prefer the 13's as you can replace the trannys on them
that said all my tanks run 14's

Re: blown board... what should i do?
Hi Matt,
My opinion: Get a new rx14 and put some heatsinks on the FET's (and a fan!)
suitable heatsinks (that are currently out of stock!): http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog ... cts_id=851
'destructions' for wiring the fan are on RCU.
If you dump the HL board you will either have to go el-mod (muchos moolah!) or lose the sound and/or the IR battling capability.
I've dumped HL boards in favour of Scorpion Hx ESC's in my tank destroyers (because I wanted better control for aiming, what with the lack of turret traverse and all that), but now I'm limited to either Imperial Modelbau's EGS system (which I ordered from the 'Zone back in August and still haven't received!) which has no sound, or Tankhobby's system which doesn't slow the tank when it gets hit (but does have sounds for firing and getting hit, LED for gun flash and a 'shutdown when dead' feature).
I've not got any Rx18 boards in the fleet yet, but as its all plug-in I think you'll have a bunch more soldering to do vs getting a Rx14.
Hope this helps,
Mart

Re: blown board... what should i do?
thanks mate, sounds isnt a problem if i ditch HL because ill get the el-mod booster anyway, and i would buy the el-mod CSI for a battle system!
i think the blown board may be down to a broken off wire touching the board (eckhh)
and i will fit a fan as you have said, ill probably wire it into my second switch i have for the el-mod, its annoying all the time the batteries are in so it the el-mod.
heat sink i would fit but it wouldnt fit, i liturally have to sqush the wires coming from the top of the board flat onto it anyway because the turret rotation mechanismy is above it anyway
cheers mate, all help appretiated,

Re: blown board... what should i do?
hi , matt must be catching , my tiger1 has hl /elmod , worked fine the other day turned it on today and no forward left is now right and right is now left , checked the fets and one has extra solder welding three contacts together, so my first blown rx14 board, still when i got the elmod prop for the pershing i got the chips and wire kit to prop the tig
time to rip them boards out
all the best ,ICE

Re: blown board... what should i do?
I did hear from the Blitz that HL and El-Mod wasn't a good combination - Phil recommended going the whole hog and getting fully rid of the HL parts.
Re: blown board... what should i do?
if you get the "extra" solder try removing it as it's causing a short and if you havent powered to much through the fets you may be good
this happened on my T34 removed the solder and no problems
