HL KV-1 Gearbox question

Am I right in thinking I need short shaft gearboxes on the KV-1 if I use metal sprockets?

The KV uses long shaft gearboxes, but if you upgrade to Asiatam sprockets, you will need short shafts. I've seen the replacement shafts packaged with the sprockets, but since I bought their entire hull, I bought the short shaft 3:1 steel gearboxes from RCCommand and they work perfectly. If I had to do it over, I'd just buy the Asiatam gears for the same price.
