I think it could vary depending on the crews. Some propbably would've painted them ivory, and left them like that. I know they did that on Tigers. I left my escape hatch white and the rest grey.

I'd say leave it white. It's not a hatch thats regularly opened in combat opertaions, mostly for loading or quick exits, so it shouldnt be as much of a worry to pain the inside.

But most TCs didn't like fighting "buttoned up", so opened cupola during battles was quite common.
I once saw a KT phot...the hatch was literally REMOVED by the TC, leaving the arm there.
