Re: HL Panther
Hi all I hope Im not butting in . I to have ordered the HL panther G from Dave . I was going to turn mine back to a early G without the chined mantlet and the later exhaust pipes . As used in Normandy along side the Ausf.As The reason for this was I wanted to zimmerit mine to . But I might be wrong but as far as I know the later Gs with the chined mantlet and later style exhausts didnt receive zimmerit . The chined mantlet was issued from Sept '44 the same time the factorys stopped the zimmerit . I supose there was probaly cross overs and some were done . But I havent seen any chined Panthers with zimmerit just the early un chined version .

Hi littletankman, thanks for the heads up on that....I might have a bit of knowledge on tigers but not much on panthers...I think I will be pestering you about accuracy on panthers until i start to read up on them..littletankman wrote:Hi all I hope Im not butting in . Re: HL Panther
Hi mate your welcome any help I can be but Im no expert . I only ordered my HL Panther G Sun of Dave . I also bought the IR HL Jagdpanther top so hey two tanks . Im curently re building / correcting my HL Pantiger , see the HL build posts . But Im sure all Panther G late models like the new HL G wouldnt have zimmerit . I looked at Daves picts and theres a moulded lump on the turret in front of the commandors cupola . In one of my books it states this might be the mount for the infera red gear . Think the pictures the post war built Panther G at Bovington. So from what Ive seen of Daves pictures , chinned mantlet , late war exhausts , splash guard on the mantlet top , infa red mount (?) Also there was less bolts on the engine decks compared with the Ausf. D and A versions . Im not sure if HL have done this I didnt look mate .

Re: HL Panther
Hi Andy, it looks like there is a lot to learn here, not as simple as a tiger early/mid/late...and to find out if heng long have got it right with the g version will be a task in itself by compairing lots of period photos...recommend any books

Re: HL Panther
Hi Nic . I think it looks pretty good to be honest . The only thing Im unsure on is the width of the tracks , as the Panther ones are narrower than the Tigers . You still got early . mid and late versions of the Ausf. D , A and G . Im not to intrested in the Ausf.F as it didnt see combat . As for books Ive got the after the battle books : Battle of the Bulge , Panzers in Normandy and Ruckermarch then and now . Theres loads of pictures in there . Others I have are the Osprey books , Panther , Panther variants and modeling the Panther . The last one there all 1:35 scale theres an Ausf . D early A and a very late G with full interior . It also shows you all the very late mods to the tank . Some had steel loops welded to the turret to add folage for cammoflage ! Theres loads of early Gs with zimmerit and they look good . But no chins Im affraid.

Re: HL Panther
I'll vouch for the Battle of the Bulge and Panzers In Normandy books. They both have a huge amount of Panther photos in them. It all depends on what theatre you want your Panther to be from.

Re: HL Panther
Hi Rik, As late as I can...well, late 44' western front-after september ish when the retreat slowed down after the failure of market garden I would prefer...but I might see a picture of something that will catch my eye of one peticular tank and base it on that.

Re: HL Panther
Hi Andy...are there any german tanks that were not knocked out/self destroyed? :~ .....we both build tanks that lasted only a short while I think...even what is left today are mostly cut and shuts!
Nic
Though I do try to build them without holes in them...
