Ladies and gentlemen
I am new to this forum but not new to both modelling and RC world.
As a teenager and all through my 20's I did a lot of tank modelling in 1:35 scale, with special emphasis on German WW II armour. I really like the Pz IV as it was the workhorse of German military might.
As for RC... again I started young, but left the hobby for a long time. I picked it up again in 2011 and got into RC helicopters. Been building scale RC helicopters and enjoy flying them ever since.
Jr and I got a heng long 1:16 Tiger I early a long time ago. It still has 72 Mhz remote control system..
Anyway Jr will be leaving for college this year and I thought about modifying the Tiger I to a bit more contemporary equipment. I fly my helicopters with Jeti control system and thought about the possibility to use it in the tank world as well.
looking forward to exploring all the options.
Klem

Re: new to this forum
Welcome, Klem: your experience with both modeling and RC will be great assets and soon you can be helping us here on RCTW. As you've likely already seen here, the Tiger I is a modeling wonderland with a treasure trove of aftermarket goodies available. We welcome your questions, advice, frustrations and triumphs. And, as you've likely seen, too, we love photos.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada.
Pop a Heng Long 7.0 control system in it and you will be amazed at how far HL has come. Better low speed control and you can turn off the track recoil when you fire! Sounds are still kinda meh, but decent and a lot of the electronics whine is gone. Aliexpress and Toucan plus a bunch of other suppliers depending on your locale have the control board and transmitter for good prices.
Mike.

Hello Klem. Welcome from Argyll and Bute.
You don’t get wiser as you get older. You just run out of stupid things to do.

Welcome to the forum. Tiger I is my focus. Since you come from a modeling background you're likely aware of the many details that the Heng Long could use some improvement on. I'll be watching any build posts you start.
Be well
