2 or 3 years ago I bought a MIB static Tamiya Jagdpanther for 250€ shipped. It was quite a nice deal. I had the idea of converting it to RC which was quite easy.
First step was to replace all the nylon bushing by quality ball bearings.
Second step was to add gearboxes. HengLong gearboxes did not fit so I had to use my Tamiya King Tiger gearboxes (that King Tiger was the motorized version that I had converted to RC by installing Tamiya gearboxes years ago). I used the frame and shaft of the static Jagdpanther and used the gears of the King Tiger gearboxes.
The King Tiger received Heng Long gearboxes which fit easily in the larger chassis.
Then I shelved it. I like the Jagdpanther but to be honest while I like 1/16 Tamiya RC tank chassis, I find the hull and details quite basic. While it works in 1/35, it does not at 1/16 scale (and most of the time, their 1/35 counterparts have more parts than the 1/16 version...).
A week ago I came across a brand new 1/16 Trumpeter Panther G kit which are usually quite expensive (more than 400€ most of the time) but it was only 180€. I did not buy it though as it was still expensive (and I was only searching for spare Panther/Jagdpanther tracks
Fitting the hull on the Tamiya chassis won't be very hard...
Here are some pics, I only worked a few minutes on it to adapt the rear chassis plate.
Just after opening the box, I could not resist to put the upper Trumpeter hull on the Tamiya chassis. It seemed to me it would work without too much troubles !
However the Tamiya rear plate was not wide enough and not enough detailed so I add to use the Trumpeter part.
I cut the attachment brackets of the Tamiya part and glued it to the Trumpeter part so it could be bolted to the chassis.
To be continued !
