Cheap way to get louder HL tank

Post by wibblywobbly »

Mad scientist embarks on another project.

You can buy these amplifiers on Ebay, either with or without an volume control. I got 5 PAM8403's for £1 from China. Power it with a 6v battery pack, a little bit of soldering and you will have a 'very' loud HL tank. It is a lot louder and clearer than you can hear in the video, I am using my cheap smartphone, and You tube reduces the quality as well.

This will not work on the newest T90 RX18 as there is no volume control socket, the volume is controlled from the tx.

Awesome sounds. Stupid question time - do you have to have 2 speakers to absorb the power? It's just that they would take up an awful lot of room.

It runs on one, it's a stereo amo, but you can just hook up one speaker, I have been playing around with it and it is ok. It didn't work so well on a Clark board running it off the volume socket, I will look and see where Clark hooks his amp up. I tested a few HL speakers as well, there is quite a difference between them, the newer ones with the silver cone are way better than the old ones.

Nothing like jumping on an 8 year old thread. Not even polite enough to introduce yourself.
