HL TK 7.0: "Launch Flashing Light", "Aiming Light", and a mystery plug

Post by KernelClinq »

Hi folks,

While taking my HL M26 apart, I guess several wires got disconnected. I managed to get LED4 and LED5 sorted out (headlights and MG firing), but there's another wire pair which I think goes to LED1 or LED2 ("Launch Flashing Light" & "Aiming Light" respectively). What exactly are the "Launch Flashing Light" & "Aiming Light"?

Everything seems to function even with this wire disconnected, except I seem to recall seeing somewhere that an LED in the mantlet is supposed to flash when firing the airsoft main gun. It never has done that, and it doesnt seem to do so with that mystery wire connected in either LED1 or LED2 position. Note, this has a Toucan-hobby installed 360 turret mod, and the mystery wire originates on a multi-pin connector with Black and Brown wires on the other side.

Here's the mystery wire, in my fingers. Notice LED1 and LED2 positions empty in the background

Here's how I found the wires when I first separated the hull from the top deck. The disconnected MG and Headlights wires were obvious, but I didn't notice LED1 and LED2 positions vacant. The mystery wire was up underneath the main bundle, and I did not even notice it disconnected at first (as if it was disconnected before I took the tank apart).

Recent HL tanks seem to have done away with the red LED for when the bb gun is winding up but they have an IR (infra red) led in its place for IR battles so it plugs in elsewhere on the mfu
at least thats the case in my 3 recent HL tanks
I modified my King Tiger to 360 turret rotation and there is a spare 2 wire connector that isnt used
Cheers

Ah ha, very interesting...

You wouldn't happen to recall if the unused wire pair is on the end of the bus-type connector leading to the turret, would you?

If the spare wire is connected to your 360 rotation unit it could possibly be a turret MG connection for modern tanks as they don't have a hull MG

If you have a video camera or a phone on your camera, you can see if your IR LED is functioning by watching the LED through the camera video. It will glow purple for a second or two when you fire the main gun. Just make sure you don't have any BBs loaded while doing this... :)

If you press the G and B buttons together you can switch the BB function on/off (page 5 of manual)
It still allows the IR function to work
