Trying to Build an AVRE - Tamiya Centurion
Re: Trying to Build an AVRE - Tamiya Centurion
I could never get on with Epson, but Its a good way to do decals. Ive used it in several applications now. The main problem is painting white by itself which is obviously impossible. I got around it by doing dark green around it, and painting in to close to the white with the tanks base colour. Works reasonably well. No problems with black and white or just Black of course. The trick is just finding the right font.

I have a Epson. But i need tutorial how to do this and special paper...stuart666 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 10:17 am Printable decals that you can knock out on your printer seeimingly give good results. Ive used sunnyscopa I bought from amazon to do some for my Korean war centurion, and as long as you use plenty of clearcoat straight after printing, it works very well.
This looks very nice.

Its not difficult, I used this. Its a little thick, but as long as you trim it close to what you are printing, you wont notice it.igi911 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 06, 2025 4:33 pmI have a Epson. Sunnyscopa Inkjet Decal Paper White A4 on Amazon works quite well.
Trick is to use something like gimp with a nice typeface to get something like the look you want on paper. When you have the right size (this is likely to be expensive on paper), you put in the decal paper, print it out. Then when the ink is dry, paint it over with acrylic varnish to lock the ink to the paper and stop it smearing. Plasticote works well I find. Then I hung it on the washing line to dry.
Trim close to whatever you print, use it as an ordinary decal. As long as you arent doing anything white, it works very well. I think I managed to do white, but I had to surround the letters with green as close to what I was painted my centurion could do. Then I painted in with the right colour with hand brushing to try and make it blend in. Worked pretty well I think. I shall have to up photographs of my Centurion build and show the results.
