Im currently stuck on what to try to save up for....... it will take me a long time but i am truly invested in this lol and my rc cars of course.
Back to the question which one should i go with as they both seem really cool, the current determining factor is price as between the 2 there is a massive price gap:
Armorteck: https://www.armortek.co.uk/products/king-tiger
As from what i can see there is going to be quiet a long wait for this to be relaunched the price is 14,560.75 AUD with all the option packs
Henglong: https://www.toucanhobby.com/en-ca/produ ... ff44&_ss=r
It would be cool to have this but as you can see its 11490 USD much more then what the 1/6 king tiger from armorteck is as well the armorteck tiger is bigger and most importantly heavier.
In my humble opinion:
Armortek - 1/6 scale with a multitude of accessories such as figures. On the other hand, you have to build the model yourself from the supplied parts. The Heng Long tank is RTR.
Armortek would be better choice hands down. You can see Jib's Abrams post here on the forums. He's the only person I know of that has bought the 1/8th Abrams. He's had to do a lot of work to it to bring it up to a decent standard. It didn't even come with the Abrams turbine engine sound. Heng Long always seems to kinda do things a bit half cocked.
Yeah, so if you want something RTR-ish then you can get the HL, they come assembled and painted.
I got the Abrams (the 6th one purchased, not sure who bought the other 5), because no one makes an Abrams in that scale, and I didn’t have a 3D printer at the time, and I had the money to do it.
However, if you want a Tiger 1, I would go ArmorTek, unless you really don’t want to paint/assemble yourself, OR you really want Airsoft.
From what I have seen the quality of ArmorTek (I don’t own one) is much better than the HL 1/8, 1/6. Not to say that HL is terrible, but, ArmorTek, the quality of the metal is better.
The two big pros HL has over AT are Airsoft (which most people don’t care about or like) and (at least for the 1/6 scale) they use 36v motors, which will add more
Speed to the model. Again, this probably isn’t necessary for a Tiger I. The 36v motors in the 1/8 Abrams are nice and bring it up to just shy of scale speed.
AT seems cheaper on the surface, but once you start adding sound packs and motion packs and smoke packs and whatever else, I think it starts to approach the prices of the larger HL models.
If you or any one has any questions about the model or my experience with the company I can answer that here.
PS, they really want to sell these models, and will work with you somewhat on the price. I got mine knocked down from $11K to $10K (USD) a year ago. Still expensive, but every bit helps.
PPS, they posted a new unboxing video of the Abrams the other day, and they still have the smoke grenade launchers mounted on opposite sides and upside down, which I think kind of sums up their 1/8 Abrams in general.
