Look at that! It not only runs: it rolls over for belly rubs! Arf! Arf!

This is not an abandoned project. Although a number of other projects took my time this past summer, I am back at this one. Will had primed everything and even provided an ESC hidden in the fuel tank.

To hook up NiMH battery just to test things, I had to wire to a connector. I had a 50/50 chance of crossing the wires from the battery to the ESC. When I have a 50/50 chance, I get it wrong 87.68% of the time. ZAP!

I removed the fried ESC and discovered that I had no ESCs on hand. With other project pressing, I stored the CCKW away. Today, with a new ESC, I tested the new connections and wiring and started setting up the electronics through my FlySky transmitter. The steering worked perfectly, but the motor would not run: most odd. Here's a photo of the battery, ESC, and receiver hooked up to a test motor.

After sufficient head scratching, I found out that this ESC only wants to be connected to No. 2 of the receiver---not 1, 3, 4, 5 or 6. Hooked up to the receiver number 2 spot, all works well. Is this usual for ESCs?

Not sure but the throttle "trigger" on a pistol TX is channel 2.

Ah ha! You might have hit the explanation, Ecam. I wouldn't be surprised if this ESC is designed with the intent that it be used with an RC car or truck. That type represents most of the hobby store's RC sales.

First of all, Ecam was correct: the throttle has to be on channel 2. So now the WCP CCKW runs with throttle and steering just the opposite of my Jeep.
(viewtopic.php?t=32221&hilit=Jeep). Such challenges help keep my mind young.

The CCKW runs slowly and steers well, so much so that Tuesday I could creep it in tight spots among the Make Modeling Mediocre Again modelers' tables, feet, and chairs.

I am waiting for some connectors to set up the electronics in their intended spots (battery under a crate in the bed, ESC in the fuel tank, receiver under the hood). Then on to paint.

Even my six channel pistol style Flysky FS-GT5 radio is throttle channel two. That was why I made that guess.

The CCKW is a model I like very much and I plan to build one soon. After all, I already designed several parts for the DUKW that are common to the CCKW (headlights, motor wipers and such).
I remember when I built the 1/35 Heller kit as a kid. One of my first 1/35 kit, if not the first one! (with it's counterpart, the Opel Blitz )

Since the CCKW is up 'n' runnin' I took some quick photos of the base color (Vallejo's "primer" OD, which sprays wonderfully). Because I couldn't get the tires off the wheels nor the wheels off the axles without fear of breakage, I masked the wheels and tires. No problem.
Now on to some detail parts. I need headlights for the CCKW (and still for my static FAMO). I'm some wizard here in the US could print me some of the correct headlights.
