Panther G schuzren

Post by Stormbringer »

Hi all
I decided after fitting the schuzren to my Jagdpanther to do the same to my Panther G (Jagdpanther build log) viewtopic.php?t=37728
I am going to do the same for this as i did on the Jagdpanther
1st off i measured and cut 3mm square section plastic rod to size

which i then glued to the upper hull
Panther 1b.jpg

I then cut standoffs from 1.5mm plasticard sheet and glued them to the aluminium plates
Panther 1c.jpg
Panther 1c.jpg (658.46 KiB) Viewed 263 times
i used 2 standoffs on the rear plates and 1 on the rest of plates
once the standoff were fitted to the plates i used a drill bit to drill and widen the holes in the standoffs
after that was done i laid the rear plate in its position and drilled the holes for and secured it in place
i did this for all the plates starting from rear to the front I used m1.6 x8mm screws with M2 washers to secure them
which gave me this

happy with how they sat i removed them and sprayed the plates with tamiya yellow brown
I then refitted the plates and masked off the tank and did my 1st ever sprayed camo pattern on the plates
when dry i then weathered the whole tank with a Vallejo chocolate brown wash
and this is how she sits now but i may do a slightly thicker chocolate brown wash on the lower 1/2s of the schuzren later

Was this to strengthen the aluminum? Or are the "standoffs" simply spacers and I'm missunderstanding?

Nice fast work!

Thx mate
No the standoffs were used to keep the alu plates away from the tracks so they dont bind or catch

After having another look at her in daylight today i decided to give the bottomish part of the schuzren, the rear panel and the wheels a less watered down wash of chocolate brown
Im trying to aim for that its just crossed a plowed field in the rain and think i might have achieved that
any way less waffle and onto the pics

ohh just in case anyones interested i bought this Taigen tank in 2016 and she has had a fair bit of use outside over the years
Also the colours i used were
the light brownish colour was a mix of tamiya yellow brown xf92 and olive drab xf62 mixed to match existing colour
the dark red is tamiya hull red xf9 mixed with tamiya mat black xf1 again mixed to match original
the green is tamiya black green xf27 but you could use humbrol black green matt 91 which was a slightly better match but didnt spray as well as the tamiya paint
I hope thats been of use to folks
Cheers

The schürzen panels certainly look like they have been through a muddy field (well done) but the wheels are a bit clean...
