Warming !! Opening of large can of worms.

After doing some online research im no further forward. How to unravel the mysteries of Soviet green ?

After WW2 Soviet green was changed from 4BO to ?? Everyone seems to have a different opinion of what it should be. Even the factories seem to use different colours.



Time to test a couple of colours.

Tamiya TS-28 Olive Drab (As control colour)
Humbrol Acrylic 105
Vallejo Model Air Russian green 4BO
Ral 6025
Ral 6003.

What looks the closest ?

Yes, they stopped using 4BO after the war. There seems to be a lot of variation in the colors the Russians use. Are you looking for a good 4BO or looking for a modern green?

On my Heng Long T-72, I used AK Interactive AK-030 4BO Dark Base and it was a near perfect match for the HL paint color. That being said, the newer Heng Long T-72 ERA version I think has some wanna be Heng Long highlighting done to it so I'm sure that doesn't match.

well, knowing Russia a little bit, the guy who is responsible for painting the tanks probably went on Mondaymorning to the shop and ask for a can of paint like he had last week, in Russia that means they will give you anything that will be close to what you had (green is green, isnt it) Unfortunately it works the same with beer, if you ask ïs this....brand, the answer will always be yes. Even if it is a different color of the beer

My approach to Soviet green is that my friend and I chose one color and stuck with it (in our case, 4BO from Mr. Hobby). There's also a T-34 from Taigen in its original paint scheme on the table. It seems the color was changed to a darker one after the war.

XF-81 RAF Dark Green 2 is what I use and highlight from there as required.

If you look at field and parade green you'll also see a fairly significant difference. There are then environmental effects, so was the tank in Europe, Siberia etc and parked where?
