Imgur and the UK

Post by Stormbringer »

Hi everyone it seems Imgur has pulled the plug on UK ip addresses and we cant access or view Imgur images or even go to the site now
I can only think that its to do with the new child protection laws coming into force soon in the UK
My son uses a VPN and can now access the site using that so i may follow suit
Luckilly we had the foresight to download our images to our comps
As far as i know there was no announcement from Imgur about this :(
Cheers
Alan

Just Wow...

H'mmm is there another free file host? That's a Lot of pictures that can't be seen.

I already have all of my pictures but this makes sharing quite a challenge.

On the flip side I can still see everything.

Apparently Imgur is in a peeing match with the UK govt over something, and its use is blocked by Imgur or the govt in the UK. Free hosting services are always free...until they're not.

Use the image viewing/manipulation program on your computer (Paint etc.) to resize and away you go. The article in the Help/FAQ section on the forum explains it all and how easy it is to do.

Its something to do with uk gov considering fining them for not having age verification and alleged not conforming to current kid safety legislation
Imgur seemingly pulled the plug tho

I use paint to resize the images to about 800kb ish

Here's a link to a explanation that I found-

https://cybernews.com/uk/how-to-use-vpn ... nblock-it/

It's unknown Imgur's motives exactly it could be something as benign as they don't have it ready to comply but as mentioned using a VPN will allow viewing of the geographically blocked pimages.
