When Using New Tracks

Post by TankDriver »

When fitting new tracks, the sprocket drive wheels are an obvious choice to check for compatibility, but make sure to also check the idler wheels... I tried to put some Taigen tracks on my Mato Tiger & although the sprocket meshed with the track perfectly, on the first trip across the floor it left sliced-up rubber tires in its wake! After inspecting, I discovered that the clearance between the 2 rows of 'teeth' on the Taigen tracks is a fraction narrower than that on the Mato ones, so the teeth were rubbing against the tires passing between them; first clue to what was happening was that I could see the tracks 'binding' & getting stuck when going around the idler wheels, so the clearance was too narrow for the idler wheel width. Had I tested that out first, I would've saved myself some tires :)

Yep, most of the time it is not something you have to worry about out of the box.

I have found that the Mato stuff is by far the most "out on its own" from all the others we usually encounter.
Im not considering the Asiatam offerings as those are so narrow in application so as to be insignificant in exposure.
