1/14 Maz 537 & ChMZAP-5247G trailer.

Post by Moogie »

Hi, new to the forum, would just like to show you something im working on.
As with most of my projects these day they start with a scale drawing in CAD.

Image

Image

Not exactly to scale but im using Axial SCX axles for this build instead of the proper independent suspension.

Image

And of course you cant have a tank transporter without a trailer.

Image

May as well make a tank also to finish it off. T-62

3D printing has already started, ill get thing updated asap.

Very interesting project. I'm not familiar with that kind of material/trucks (soviet/Russian) but I like the look of it.

Some parts of this print is taking 4+ hours which isnt to bad in large print times. Not looking forward to all the sanding. :headbang:

Most of the engine bay complete.

Image

All hatches able to open.

Image

Chain box.

Image

With opening lid and magnet catches.

Image

5th wheel moves in two axis for greater flexibility over rough terrain.

Image

Image

Dash and seats complete, still needs a bit more paint.

Image

Lastly, experimenting with making and ageing some chains and tow cables. Before and after.

Moogie, certainly your Maz 537 is impressive and again demonstrates that 3D printing is the way modeling is going. You mention sanding, and I would guess that you mean sanding out the striations from the printing. Do you have one of those little powered detail sanders? That would help reduce the work some. What is more, seeing, e.g., the roof of the truck cab, there is some detail you would not want to sand away. I don't envy the job, but you have already demonstrated that the results will be great.

Ahem, I see that the cab interior includes cupholders! :haha:

Yes, special Russian coffee cup to get express service ! :D

A few more detail parts.

Image

Sanding the ribs out of a 3D printed part is just the worst part of the whole process.
While i get on with the body the printer can start with the trailer.

Image

I sandwiched a piece of 1.5mm aluminium between the printed parts to add some rigidity.
