Born Again to the Servo Gods...

Post by MrChef »

Soooooo y'all might remember my project following Meter rats tutelage getting the Asiatam barrel recoil and elevation unit to play nicely withe the TK7.0. Well I kinda got sick of it's finicky workings and wanted to do more barrel recoil, flash and smoke on some of my other wagons.

Welcome me to the 21st Century. Funny part is, and I'm not sure why, I was apprehensive about servos, but man they're a lot easier than whispering sweet nothings into that Asiatam units ear every time before it took a shot. :haha:

So I bring you a TK 7.1 running Rich Johnson's smooth as buttered glass printed recoil unit. Worth every penny and minute spent setting it up.

Did a little fab work making shims for a perfect fit. 2.5mm square styrene rods did the trick and are easy to file some grooves into.

and Yes Ian, I'm sure it would work on a modern tank as well, just wouldn't look as cool :haha: :haha: :haha:

sumptin sexy bout that piece of work... Yep I'll take credit for that perfectly fit liner :D

Thank you for the URL, MrChef. Yes, In 1966 first saw a servo operate, remarkable for the time. I have had more success with servos than any other electronic gizmo: they seem to be remarkably reliable.

Joking aside.
This is good smooth work, and would happily install some into the bastard Challenger, the T72, the second Tamiya Leopard 1, and the two Leopard 2s I have waiting in the wings. I have seen some of Rich’s other work, for the Leopard 1. He was offering sprung shock absorbers to replace the Tamiya ones, on the Leopard 1. I did contact him, but received no reply, so at the moment I am a little reticence to try to make a purchase. I would need four, maybe five. It would be nice to have them in stock for future projects. Sorry for the negativity, just a little disappointed with previous correspondence with him.

It does make that box you’ve mounted in look cool 😎. Far better than any Tiger.

I've ordered from Rich and gotten what I ordered. He's more active on Hobby Squawk right now. Wondering if maybe his Email when to a SPAM folder?

Good Afternoon, Mr Chef!
This looks like what I need to bring the Turret back to life on my Late Tiger 1 Off the top of your head, does Rich Johnson have a version of this that would incorporate Server Elevation of the Barrel in the unit as well?
regards,
Painless

Hi Mr.Painless, this I don't know but you could of course ask him.

The unit I'm using has a perfect slot for incorporating a current Heng Long or Taigen elevation unit.

Here I've got the recoil and elevation worked out and am mocking it up to see where the barrel smoke/flash units will fit.
