Help! I've messed up!

Post by bikerdude »

Hi I recently bought a Coolbank Crusader III, very pleased with it, turned up quick, cost a little over £100, and ran well, with a good amount of parts in the detail pack.

Sadly while fitting the wheel centres, it seems I was a little liberal with the glue, it's got on to the axles and most of the wheels are now very hard to turn. I thought I'd pop the caps back off, take the screws out and clean it up but the caps are stuck solid, I must've used the wrong bottle (used to work in a place making glues, I've various different glues in unmarked bottles with just my writing on of what they are, and its started to fade).
I'm guessing what I actually used was a cyanoacrylate superglue. Has anyone got any ideas of how I could get these caps back off, so I can get to the screw heads and remove them to clean it all up and reassemble.

All help will be much appreciated, (light mocking for my stupidity will be accepted too). Thanks.

There is stuff called DEBonder...............brands may vary up there where you are but the stuff is a formula to specifically de-bond Cyno glue.
Get some & try that

Thanks I didn't know you could buy stuff specifically for it. The local tool shop seems to stock it so I'll go and get some and give that a try. Hopefully it won't affect the paint too much. So annoyed with myself, I never normally bother with the centre caps, thinking I'll need to get to the screws sometime, then the one time I give it a go I mess it up!

I got some de-bonder, I managed to get the centre cap off but sadly it seems to have made the plastic very soft and sticky, so I think I may have buggered it properly. Thinking I might need to order another and keep this as spares.

No mocking. I've been there, done that.

Now when I use cyno glue, I use a toothpick.

Not all of it has acetone in it these days at least here in the US. A lot of it doesn't and you have to be careful not to get it all over the tank or it can melt any plastic it touches.
