Hi, I don't yet own a tank but am looking at getting one, for me and my son to be able to play and exsibit at shows and meets.
I'm 62 and my son is only 12,

I would like to buy and customise a main battle tank (British if possable) as, from what I can see there seem to be a lot of Tigers,Lepords and other German ones about.

I would love to build one from scratch or kit, however it is looking like I may have to buy a ready built one to get started.

Any help, advice welcomed.

Kind regards

Welcome to the fray.

The only British "kits" are the Centurions. One from Haya and one from Tamiya. Both are expensive with the Tamiya being more expensive. The Haya kit isn't for the faint of heart as there are no instructions. Tamiya makes excellent kits with a most excellently high price to go with them. As a new tanker I probably wouldn't start out with either kit as the lack of instructions on the Haya and the high price of the Tamiya are limiting factors.

There are ready to run British tanks like the Coolbank Crusader, the TongDE Churchill, TongDE Centurion (yes 3rd company making a Cent), and the Heng Long Challenger 2.

There are tons of British 3D printed tanks, but I won't get into those right now.

Lastly there is a fully 3D printed Cromwell kit from Warprints that has excellent instructions, great detail, and can be bought complete with hardware except the electronics.

Some of these tanks support airsoft and some don't so if you are looking to shoot BBs instead of IR beams at each other, that might change your options. Even the Crusader IR doesn't work with the other tanks so it would need mods to do that and it doesn't have BB either. Anyway, if you have specific questions about a certain tank, just let us know. I own some of the tanks on this list.

Welcome from NJ, USA!

The British during WW2 used the M4 Sherman.
You could get a Sherman and doll it up as British.

Out of the box but it might increase your options.

Also you won't be able to buy just 1. :D

Welcome, Kennyboy1962: whereabouts in the world are you? If you are in the UK, check all the good advice RCTW just had fun giving to another newcomer: viewtopic.php?t=37394 . If you are from elsewhere, let us know, as there are RC tankers here on RCTW from all over the world who can help. And, yes, I admire your wanting to "to build one from scratch or kit," but it is definitely best to start with "a ready built one" to understand the complexities (and simple aspect, too).

Welcome from Ontario, Canada.
Even though many of the tanks are "ready to run", there's still some assembly with the smaller exterior parts, and when you add better paintwork and some customization, they become kits to be honest.
A Tongde Centurion would be pretty irresistable! Maybe a Challenger for your son?
