Thanks Rob, I think that two piece top deck with the weld seam is probably how all of them were constructed. A lot easier to manufacture in two sections . This is a flush weld so very hard to pick up on in most photos. The photos you have posted of Tiger 100 is when the Russians put on a display of captured German equipment In Gorky park ,Moscow in 1943.There are additional photos of Tiger 100 at the same time. Goggle[ Tiger 100 Gorky park] .You will see a Facebook image available. Click on that for a very clear photo and shows engine grills on Tiger 100 and in that photo you can just make out that the grill on the commanders side has a bend upwards on the rear corner. Google Toughie.Soviet arsernal against tiger 1.Have a look at this site and you will see a photo from the other side of the tank showing the bent grill. You have the ability of enlarging these images on these sites .Photo evidence, not here say but it is your tank so have it the way you like it .I think there is a lot of misinformation out there from people who think they are experts but don't really know what are talking about. David Bryden is a expert regarding Tiger 1 tanks and he has said that initial had grills. Makes sense that the Germans weren't going to allow this very expensive tank and one of Hitlers wonder weapons to be able to be taken out by a 15 Rubel grenade. The three prototypes did not have grills. Regards John.

Hey John.
Thnkz for your explanation about the grills.
As I don‘t have FB, maybe I cannot see the pics you‘re talking about.
But I will give it a try anyway.
Rob.

The upper picture is not really clear enough to see much detail of the lower front of the Tank but the spare track holder looks different from the later single cross track retaining bar.
Is it my eyes or is it different?
And someone has had the jack away Herman !!! :lolno:
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

The soviets also reinstalled the right side pistol port backwards. Gotta be careful using those captured Tiger photos for reference.

You have not gone blind yet Jarndice. You are correct about the track holding bars on this picture of Tiger 100 .There are two and they did not span all the way to each side of the tank. The spare tracks slip in from the top to sit in the bottom bar and the top bar is used as a locking bar assembly to lock the tracks in place. This top bar could be bolted on and off to act as a lock and you can can see the bolts in this picture. Tiger 121 also captured by the Russians is the same .I will attempt to get the face book photo posted that I have mentioned as there are some more detail in this photo just regarding a initial Tiger that you, Jimster and Rob59 may find interesting.

Reading discussions like this, the subtle differences here, the absence or presence of something else there, the research done to make the point, makes me feel so much better on a personal level. The obsessive compulsiveness of it all is just wonderful. I'll show this thread to my wife so she'll know I'm not the only one whose living a life misspent. Great pictures, great commentary. :haha:
