Server Upgrade
Hi all,
Apologies if you have noticed any "slowness" or downtime with Rc Tank Warfare over the past few weeks (especially today).
It appears that Rc Tank Warfare has outgrown its current server resources, so was hitting resources limits causing the slow downs and eventual downtime (which i've been manually forcing the site back up when it crashes due to hitting those resource limits).
I've now made the decision to upgrade the server to the next tier the hosting company offers (completed today), doubling the servers resources so hopefully this issue will go away for the foreseeable future!
Apologies again for any downtime you may have experienced!
Kind regards,
Matt

I hope others will please join in donating for the upkeep of the soon to be faster RCTW. The "Donate" button is above. I use PayPal, but there are other ways, too.

Re: Server Upgrade
Just a suggestion, putting it up to a bigger server with more resource might not help. Suggest attached a CDN service to the existing setup to offload downloading of content to the CDN.
That might be a better option.

I think another tank of the month calendar could be good for fundraising, but I shall donate

Thanks for this, unfortunately the biggest resource drag is the database - the number of queries per second is astonishing! I have looked into caching such as opcache, but as everything changes so fast with a forum there is little to be done! Images are compressed, stored and delivered quite efficiently (20gb storage used over 15 years) so isnt a concern currently!ongbenghui wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 9:40 am Just a suggestion, putting it up to a bigger server with more resource might not help. Re: Server Upgrade
Good idea - I did enjoy making the last one, unfortunately it didn't go down to well so just about covered the costs of the calendars themselves as quite a few went unsold, plus the TOTM has not run since last year so there isnt really any "monthly" content to pop in for itExhibitedbrute wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 4:01 pm I think another tank of the month calendar could be good for fundraising, but I shall donate
