HL M1A2 SEP V3 Build Help
HL M1A2 SEP V3 Build Help
Hey all,
Snagged a HL M1A2 at a local hobby store, Now to start prepping and acquiring the necessary parts.
I've found most of the hardware needed but the one thing I am missing is the added turret cheek armor on the SEP V3 variants.
Has anyone built a V3 and found or had to build these parts? I do have a 3d Printer so I could print a set if STLs are kicking around somewhere.
Thanks!

Not sure about the SEP V3 in particular, but there are tons of Abrams parts on https://cults3d.com/. A lot of the parts are in 35th scale, but most of them scale well to 1/16 by printing them at 218.75% (or multiply by 2.1875). Been working on my SEP v2 so long it was time to just finish it. No SEP v3 upgrade for me at this time...

I didn't even think about scaling up 1/35 parts. That will make it easier for some of the smaller items. However I did already look at cults for the turret cheeks. Perhaps I'll take a look on thingyverse

Hey, I tried posting on your Reddit post about this, but I got shadow banned from Reddit as a whole a few weeks ago because I don’t know why… so the post reply was invisible.
Anyways, Toucan Hobby makes a metal cheek armor add on as part of a metal APS Trophy kit for the 1/16 scale HL Abrams. I know some people were whining about tariffs, but short of printing your own, I don’t think anyone else makes it.

oh sick! I'll check those out.
Re: HL M1A2 SEP V3 Build Help
so apparently toucan cannot ship to me. So it looks like I am going to have to build them from scratch. I will update this thread once I have completed a test model. should be within a handful of days

Heavens to Murgatroid: why could Toucan Hobby not ship to you? PM me if you want the parts shipped to me. All it will cost you is the postage from here in Wisconsin northeast to you. I think... uh oh... will the tariff war make trouble?
Re: HL M1A2 SEP V3 Build Help
Would love to see the end result of this. I just got a 3D printer for my birthday, can’t wait to start putting it to use, but I’ve got to figure out how to even design something. I’ll be looking to make/print these for my 1/16 and my 1/8 Abrams.
There was a big to do on the rctank subreddit about Toucan Hobby and them charging, understandably in my opinion, exorbitant amounts for shipping to US customers. However it seems they have found some sort of compromise via their US based store front?
I just ordered my 3rd DasMikro Mini, I expected them to have crazy shipping, but it was just a flat $9 (to the US). However, it’s going to take about 15 days to get here, so we shall see what happens in the mean time.

Jib, I have heard from other modelers of static kits that even when an Asian, EU, or UK seller ships to the US, the items sit in a warehouse near the dock until the buyer releases them by paying the applicable tariff. I don’t know if this will happen when Toucan ships from US stock, but I will sure be eager to see how it works for you. My guess is that once Toucan (Color Never Fade, er al.) runs out of US stock, the tariff cost will skyrocket.
Re: HL M1A2 SEP V3 Build Help
funny enough. I don't recall there being tariffs being imposed on items from china in Canada (not new ones that is). So I have no idea why they wont ship to me from the US or Asia warehouse. even left an email for an inquiry.
3d Modeling can be a steep learning curve. I have been on and off modeling (mostly for my own fun) for around 6 years and still haven't really master it. However I never did take any courses or do a whole lot of research into how to. Just by trail and error.
