The tank is like watching paint dry. I added the pins to the smoke launcher. I glued the smoke canisters together. Glue has to dry.

I’m waiting for more paint to arrive to finish the base coat…the rust looking color.

I decided to paint the turret interior “ELFENBEIN” or close as I could easily get. I ended up using a spray paint called “brain matter.” The hull interior I’ll spray graugrun. Exact match doesn’t matter since no one will see it.

I gave the tank and all the various parts a good coat of primer…every part that could be removed, added, and visible from the wheels to the hatches to the tools. Here is a pic of the primed hull, turret, and wheels.

I completed priming all the parts a month or so ago.i primed the cables after these pics. There are two German helmets on the front of the tank. I have it in mind to get a couple of Soviet helmets to replace the German ones…kind of trophies. The parts are alldry fitted.

I’ll,keep reiterating that I didn’t go the extra scale mile like other builds….will leave that for the next tank, which will be all metal.

Y’all will be happy to know I’m getting the recoil cannon and smoke. There is a smoking gun too. I might be running out of room.

Hope to have the rust oxide and interior paint applied by the end of the week. Hope to have the smoke launchers done too. I still need to make the little arm for the loader hatch. I still need to make the starter cover.

I do have a couple of questions as the opinions vary on how the tanks were delivered to the front - left in the oxide color or the panzer yellow (dunkelgelb)? Was the camo done at the front (think I read this somewhere)? Yalls answers will help me proceed with the next color - if oxide, then there would still be traces on parts that wouldn’t get sprayed like the back of wheels. Coating everything and every surface with panzer yellow makes more sense to me….maybe except the tracks. Please advise.

Enjoy the pics.

Without knowing the date in service that your Tiger 1 is based on it is not possible to give an accurate answer to your question as the paint application in the factory both internal and external changed over the years that the Tiger 1 was in production.

With reference to your paint and camouflage question, Jarndice is spot on and the man when discussing the Tiger I.

Shared continued research in recent years has shown that only about the first 50 Tiger I's were painted Gray.

It is known that all Tiger I's Left the factory in either dunkelgrau/gray (early first 50 units) or dunkelgelb/dark yellow (all the rest). They were camouflaged by their support units and crews. I am Not sure if any Tiger I's were ever camouflage painted in the factories similar to how it was done on Panthers and King Tigers. But I've never read anything to indicate or confirm this.

The Dark Yellow that was painted changed about 3 times during the war. For reference Tiger 131 at Bovington is base coated RAL 8000 which is actually called "Green Brown". This RAL color is now confirmed by the researchers at Bovington. It had previously been incorrectly interpreted as RAL 7028. IIRC this color became the standard on Tigers in January/February 1943 as part of their "Tropen" camouflaged scheme, but IIRC had been a different Dark yellow RAL previous to this and also was changed to a different Dark yellow RAL 7028 later in 1943.

So as mentioned the colors and camouflage pattern that you'd like to choose or even have suggestions for would be directly related to the time period and theater of combat that your Tiger would have seen service. The 2 camouflage colors added were Red brown and Olive green.

Here is a great reference to Wehrmacht painting or armor during that time period-
https://panzerworld.com/german-armor-camouflage

The interior colors also changed several times during production but even though I've read about this I haven't retained it. There's entirely too much Tiger stuff in my brain already and I never paint the interiors.

This reference section has some great information for you to peruse with relation to all things Tiger I- This reference section has some great i ... s Tiger I-
