Does TCB need to have ESCs plugged in to get sound?
Does TCB need to have ESCs plugged in to get sound?
So far this is what I have going:
I’ve got OP Config running and connected to the TCB
I’ve TBS4.0 going with the DasMikro Mini, and I’ve loaded the Abrams sound set into TBS4.0 and uploaded it to the DasMikro Mini
I’ve configured the radio through OP Config and set a couple of triggers, saved the profile and uploaded it to the TCB
I’ve got the TCB connected to a 2s LiPo, the DasMikro is connected to the TCB as per the instructions, and the DasMikro is connected to an 8 ohm speaker I pulled out of another tank.
When I turn the TCB on, I hear some beeps via the speaker, but I can’t get it to make any of the programmed sounds. I try to do the toggle engine on/off trigger and get nothing, I try to do the transmission on/off and nothing. I tried to do auto start on throttle and nothing.
Is this because none of the ESCs are plugged in? Is there something else going on? If I’m hearing the beeps does that mean the volume is on, or can the volume be off and I will still hear the beeps?
I will dig around in this and Open Panzers forum for an answer, but if anyone here sees this and can direct me to an answer or specific forum to search that would be great!
Thanks!

Re: Does TCB need to have ESCs plugged in to get sound?
Hi,
Glad it was an easy fix, thought it would be the cable.
I dont think the power from the usb is enough to run the functions fully.
I think for sound you need to have the model powered from a battery source, and yhe esc's connected fully, the USB is milliamps just enough for some servo activation like recoil etc and minor things like that, whilst connected to OP go into snoop mode and check all functions, it will tell you in the readout what is actually operating ie engine start, forward, reverse etc, etc you need engine start for sound to be activated.
If i remember right, also turret traverse doesn't show up or move whilst connected to OP from what i remember...but its been a while since i last set one up.
I don't use the Das micro so cannot help you with that side.

Re: Does TCB need to have ESCs plugged in to get sound?
So when I was testing it, it was plugged into a 2s LiPo, so it should’ve been getting enough juice. I’ll try the snoop thing and see if I’m getting the read out I expect.
Thanks!
PS, if you are using the OP TCB, what are you using for sound? A Torro sound unit? I have one laying around, might dig it out for troubleshooting purposes.

Re: Does TCB need to have ESCs plugged in to get sound?
Hi,
I do use the Taigen sound unit predominately the Turbo Diesel sound unit for my leopard, challenger and Scimitar plus a few others, you have to do the wiring mod as per Lukes instructions and when coupled up to a Visiton speaker the sound is very good.
I have just re read your post re having the engine start on a Toggle setting, i personally find it easier to use a 2 way switch to switch engine on and engine off, try it on a 2 way switch with one way on and the other way off [ position 1 on switch engine on postion 2 on switch engine off].
That could be the issue.
Keep plugging away as when its sorted it one of the best units out there.

Re: Does TCB need to have ESCs plugged in to get sound?
If there’s not a way to control volume from the TX using the TCB then I will probably do that. The RX I use is meant for drones and planes and has an ARM function that has be on for the RX to function correctly. I usually just punt that to another channel, but I could use it here for the engine toggle instead.
Re: Does TCB need to have ESCs plugged in to get sound?
I'm using the Torro sound card. ESCs shouldn't matter as the MG should fire regardless of having any ESC.

Re: Does TCB need to have ESCs plugged in to get sound?
Okay, so I had a bad case of RTFM.
I had loaded the sounds on DasMikro mini, but I had not set the parameters or diagnostics on the DasMikro mini.
Only issue I’m having now is that when I am in OP Config in Snoop, I see when most things are activated (cannon, MG start and stop, forward, reverse, neutral turn, engine on) but I get no text for traverse and elevation when I move those sticks, is this normal?
For now I’m trying to figure out how to set a three position switch to control the volume. It’s only letting me select the channel with the switch if I set it to analog, but then won’t let me set positions on the switch for the trigger. If I make the channel digital and do three positions, the channel does not appear in the list when I try to create a trigger.

Hi,
Thank you Mr tankme, i forgot about the MG sound doh.
Jib if you re re read my post on the 26th i mentioned about the traverse etc not showing up on the snoop.
Looks like your now sorted...enjoy.

Re: Does TCB need to have ESCs plugged in to get sound?
Hi Jib, what you discovered here is a bug that was introduced in the last release of OP Config (v0.94.00), and no others, which is why probably no one else has encountered it. The issue is that in some cases, certain digital functions that are selected (such as the three you were trying to use, Start Increasing Volume / Start Decreasing Volume / Stop Changing Volume) then present you with analog trigger sources, or vice-versa, which is incorrect. I have fixed this and posted a new release, v0.94.01. If you update your OP Config (in the Help menu, "Check for Updates"), this should now be corrected, but let me know if not.Jib wrote: ↑Thu Mar 27, 2025 2:11 pm For now I’m trying to figure out how to set a three position switch to control the volume. Re: Does TCB need to have ESCs plugged in to get sound?
Also, to answer the original question of this thread, no, the ESCs do not need to be connected for sound to work.
