1/16 King Tiger Tamiya Help

Hello,

So I took my 1/16 RC King Tiger out for a spin and I noticed that the little pin that sticks out of my tracks looks different compare to what some other people have. Did I build something wrong or what is the issue

What I specifically mean is in each of the track squares there is a little thing sticking out but mine seems to be in different position compared to to some tanks on here

Edit: I am using Tamiya stock tracks

I'm struggling to see this 'pin'. I assume it is the silver dot 3rd square in. I'm a big fan of Tamiya tracks for their performance out in the field but the KT ones are terrible. Getting some good metal tracks for your KT is the best investment you can make. They are not cheap but worth it. Plus a Henntec idler kit is a must

This pin, I am still saving for metal tracks but I have noticed that some tracks on here and others their pins are in different locations or some have more or less, did I mess the tracks up?

Like some might be 3rd square and than one above etc but mines are a little different in terms of positioning

For your sticky turret you can buy oversized rollers. While I love my 2 Tamiya KT's they are the worst of my 9 Tamiya FO without the aftermarket mods that were done to them.

Sorry but my main question is regarding those pins in the 3rd square, I see some people on here and other places have them maybe in the 4th square or another row entirely, did I do something wrong was my main question or is just the molding and everyone has theirs a little different

Hi, Tamiya kits are known for the warpage of the decks which some times creates a uneven surface which does not allow for the turrets to turn without catching on the deck. [KT & Panther for a start] If you look at my Tamiya KT build post there are two fixes for this .The larger turret rollers that have been mentioned all ready. Axels modellbau sell them Part no ZUH30 or you can go another step further and bond a alloy plate to the inside of the deck as Jofaur86 showed a picture in my build post to create a ridged deck [ I did my deck in brass strips but the alloy plate is the way to go.] Some builders replace the slipper clutch gear in the turret rotation motor so the the motor can drive the turret over the uneven surface because the turret has been catching.
The pins you are worried about are just casting pins from the plastic mold. Nothing to worry about. They weren't present on a real set of tracks and you wont find them on after market metal tracks that are available for your KT. It is just which way you have the plastic tracks second link section facing. Axels always seem to be out of stock of the rollers but I have a spare set I can sell you unless there is some one out there that will give you a set. Happy tanking. regards John.

U mean the axels for the turret? And also regarding the casting pins being in different positions compared to to other fellow formers etc it is not an issue and that I did not build anything wrong right.

Hello, is it also possible to replace the plastic rollers with ball bearings? which is what I did on mine. I also doubled the bottom of the turret with an aluminum plate (inner side) with an aluminum plate, in order to stiffen the assembly, for the turret drive motor (rotation) there is an original problem with a pinion, which tends to break if it forces? it seems to be a safety?

To clarify Axel modellbau is a German company You may Google their site which you will see lots of after market parts they make for a Tamiya King Tiger including the larger turret rotation wheels. If you want to use ball bearings as a alternative to the plastic turret rotation wheels, our esteemed fellow member [Great guy and a wealth of information] and he will have the answers to this . It is his idea for the under deck alloy plate which is fantastic and also using ball bearings. He will be able to tell you what bearings he used and if the bearings he used are larger than the kits plastics units and what part number are the bearings he used. Your tracks are fine. No problem.
