Another new one for the New Year
M59 Long Tom 155mm

I am working on making this RC so it will rise and rotate and will be able to be hitched up behind a large tractor unit
This is a sizeable artillery piece!

Looking forward to getting some of the new models printed

Even if the Long Tom were just poseable in firing or towing position, it would be great. Now let me see, what could be the towing vehicle.

My thoughts exactly Doc, And we both know the answer
I have yet to see a decent model of the Long Toms gun tractor in 1/16. I built the "Revell" kit years back and it was impressive, in 1/16 it would be mind bending.
If WCP offer the rig both Gun and Tractor that would be pricey but I would definately be having words with my bank manager about releasing funds.
It is a bit like the 88 (WCPs model is brilliant) without a Famo to haul it.
Just think a long Tom and an 88 together with their prime movers' what a picture that would make.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

We are still working on a Famo, however seen others have beaten us to it, we will get it done, but prioritising some other projects first
We have a diamond T underway with hard cab, almost there, although an M4 tractor.............. hmmm could be done, but i will probably over engineer it with alu chassis haha

Officially, and in chronological order:
Medium Track Type Tractor, Caterpillar or other brand - the Army quickly realised that they were waaaay too slow and moved on...
Mack NO 7.5t, with the trails connected directly to the tow hook
M4 High Speed Tractor, with the trails sitting on a dolly, connected to the tow hook

M33 and M35's were also used, but they were not the 'offical' TO&E' vehicles for the Long Tom.

"M4 High Speed Tractor" This was manufactured by Allis-Chalmers in West Allis, Wisconsin, a now quite old suburb of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Farm toy (farm model) collectors might be interested in these.

Some real pictures of actual model bits coming together
As always a mix of engineering, not just 3D printing

Leaf pack are 3d printed, however the main springs will use metal tempered springs i will make with the help of a local blacksmith like we have done before

All wheels have bearings as is usual with WCP models

Tyres are printing currently in TPU

The axles are machined and part metal, part printed
We exercise the use of FDM & SLA printers to make variety of parts

Hopefully end of the week we will have the first prototype built

I will be advertising the prototype for sale in order to build a few more
