When your project stalls...

Curious what you guys do?

I think we have discussed this before but I'm looking for a bit of motivation. The Tiger is right at the beginning of the end steps and usually the part that I relish the most just before completion, weathering and the final review. I'm sorta subliminally procrastinating because of this stage. I could start weathering and working on the wheels while I wait to decide on the markings but I'm as the tots say these days "meh"...

Do you guys start another project? Keep several projects moving at the same time?

I've got most of what I need to start the Panzer III but my usual process even though it's pseudo-organized in my brain would likely look like chaos to the random observer. So historically I've done each tank separately.

On top of that I started toying with the idea of doing a Sturmgeschutz III along side the Panzer III since there's so many similarities.

Just random thoughts as it's raining here today and I'd usually jump at the chance to work on a tank when there's virtually nothing else possible to do. But 'm just not motivated.

It has often been noted that we never finish our builds, There is always something more that needs to be done,
That is what comes from constant research and the smart ar*s members of the forum telling the rest of us of what we have missed.
I have a Challenger and an Abrams still in their boxes as well as a Tiger 1 and the makings of at least 2 PZ4s,
One of the reasons for my stowage has been the speed of electrical progress,
Waiting for the day when it made sense to continue,
Well recently such advancement appears to have slowed so having completed to my satisfaction "WCP"s Hanomag 251 I think I shall start on one of my boxes of promise and penury.
By the by I came very close to downloading pictures of the 251, It pleases me and in a moment of vanity I came close to succumbing to that weakness but that has passed but my thanks to Will and Katherine for a brilliant build.

I have enough projects started to last me 10 years... Sometimes I get to the "meh" stage. I'll take a few days off building and by then I'm ready to start again. I had been searching for a Tamiya Sheridan for the longest time at a decent price. Now that I found one and bought it, I'm desperately trying to not start building it as I have plenty of other projects. I did sell off a broken Maxxpro MRAP that I'll never get around to fixing and my Firefly kit. At least it frees up some space. I have some low hanging fruit projects so I think I'll finish them first...or not...lol

Yep, I know that feeling.
I do have several unfinished projects too:
The Initial Production Tiger 1 still needs some markings and weathering.
2 Panzer IV‘s which need their camo schemes and weathering.
My early StuG Ausf.-A, needs its Panzergrau coat.
The Hooben Elefant which is still in oxide red and sits waiting for the Dunkelgelb/Green camo and the 7.1 main board.
So most of my unfinished projects need a paintjob in some way, but as I paint outside (when I spray with rattlecans), I just must wait for better weather.
Temps below zerow now, but towards the end of the week temps should rise up to 15-17 degrees C.
In the meanwhile I made a start with another new HL StuG 3, which gets Winterketten, a stowage rack and I want to change the position of the 3 support rollers.
And of course, lots of German soldiers are waiting to get painted too.
In another thread I mentioned also my lack of spare time, due to raising our puppy dog, which consumes much time and energy.
So, lets wait for better times to come!

I take the perspective of :

Its a hobby-not a race

You are the only one that puts timelines on your work, if your not in the mood, then do something else..............you know, that stuff we all do that isnt building these things !!
(Yeah I know, what is that ??)
My Wife & I were interacting the other day about the very subject :
Since 2014 when I got back into models, what did I do every night before then ??
And you know what, neither of us could remember.
My Girls have lived their entire lives with me doing this thing, they dont know anything different than its what I do when I get home from work, on weekends while they go out to dance class or to shows, on days off whatever that may be.
Im not a go out socialising type, so this is what I do to relax and keep the brain & hands active.


For me its far easier to compartmentalise a single model, gather parts for it, research it, start it, work through it, then finish it.
If Im waiting for parts mid build I might do a quick fill in job or, look at one of the older models & see what can be easily done to make an improvement.

Its ok to get "builders block " , it doesnt mean you aren't interested, just a bit flat & need a break.
Sometimes surfing You-tube can make a spark that ignites the motivation.
I often sit & build with some sort of documentary or other clip running on the tv especially if its related to the tank Im doing at the time.

First of all, I never have one project at a time. I currently have several in progress. I have often been criticized by my colleagues for this But thanks to this, when I get bored with one build, I move on to another. In time, they will be completed. A few years ago I didn't have any models but since then I have built a Panzer III, two Shermans, a Jagdtiger and a Renault FT. Currently I have under construction: SU-122, T-34, Sherman, Mark IV, IS-2, Churchill, StuH. Sooner or later I will finish each of them.

One at a time only, and only when I want to do it. Otherwise, for me nothing gets finished, and it's far too easy to pull apart another tank.

Plus...lots of other projects to dive into when I'm not feeling tanky or waiting for parts. Many, many Colemans (and Tilleys, Bialladins, Petromaxes, Austromaxes etc.for you overseas-to-me folks) to restore, a Lee Enfield No4 Mk1 to unsporterize, a GT6 exhaust to fit, a big box of old fishing lures to clean and evaluate for the collection...now I'm feeling anxious!

Plus there's this stuff to deal with!
