New Build Logs section

Post by Matdragon »

Hi all,

Its been a long time since this forum was started and the layout of boards / forums created, and things have changed allot in that time! Heng Long and Tamiya are no long the primary / favourite manufactures of models, so in the "Builds & Mods" section having 3 categories for "Heng Long Builds", "Tamiya Builds" and "Other builds" seems not only unfair to other manufactures, but also non-representative of the models being produced and worked on by enthusiasts.

So we've now created the new "Build Logs" section within "Builds & Mods":
viewforum.php?f=132

This new board aims to have listed the generic model / platforms for each type of tank, so that we can have a better way of finding build logs for each type of tank. The reason we've kept it to "platforms" is otherwise it would end up being far too granulated by listing out each type / model / variation of model, which would become a very big list with hardly any topics under each one. There are a few exceptions, for example "Jadgpanther" and "Panther" are separately listed.

All manufactures will now be posted under the same model, rather than splitting them apart into the separate manufacturer categories.

We hope this change is a positive one and well received! I plan to eventually add small image / icons of the each model to the model lists within the new build logs section to help identify them!

We will begin moving the threads out of the old manufacture specific boards soon with a view of eventually removing them.

Many thanks,
Matt

Bravo, Matdragon! In sincere, if shameless, promotional fervor, I point out the your attentiveness to updates is all the more reason for RCTW frequenters to donate using the https://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/donate/ link.

Hello,
After using them over the weekend, i think the new build categories by generic tank model are a great improvement, allowing me to browse more efficiently, to better focus and also discover build logs i had never seen before. In the past, i had to use the search function using key words (ie Stug, Mexas, Churchill...) to look for builds and it was not easy because it was returning so many non specific posts just because it contained one comment with the keyword. After a few pages with the latest posts, i normally just gave up looking at others.

With so many new 1/16 models coming out left and right on a monthly basis, i found the new classifications to be a lot more efficient.
Thank you,
Louis

Yes, during the weekend thread sorting campaign, I noticed many interesting ones that I had no idea about because they were lost in the depths of the forum.
I must admit that I was also happy to implement my idea to tidy up the build section a bit, following the example of other forums.

While sorting, it turned out that the most popular threads were about Tiger I. In second place are all possible versions of the Sherman. We also included various machines "related" to it, such as its ancestors (M3) or cousins (Ram). As well as various tank destroyers and artillery based on them.

Possible try of a 3D scan of a Panther G lower hull. My son has a friend who owns a 3D imager and when he and my son visited he remarked that he could scan and lay the chassis out as a flat and then be cut on a plasma table as one piece out of metal then folded in to a single piece and soldered or possibly tig welded .We have set a time and now I start the complete tear down of my Panther we think that it will take at least three tries to get all the details just right.I spent almost 40 yrs as a sheetmetal worker so forming and welding are second nature to me.I will try and keep info and hopefully pics go as progress goes forward. My intent is to try different types of metal .
